There is one thing that has always pissed me off...
These are the pillows that tend to yellow over time.
Not you ? Yuck... That's really not clean.
So instead of being disgusted every time I change the sheets...
I've decided to bleach my pillows!
And I finally found a super effective whitening product recipe WITHOUT bleach.
Plus, the recipe is surprisingly easy and quick!
Here is how to clean and whiten your old yellow pillows naturally . Watch:
Contents
- 250 ml of hydrogen peroxide
- 120 ml of white vinegar
- about 30 ml of detergent
- essential oils
- tennis balls
- old socks
First, I chose the hottest program in the washing machine.
It's really important to use warm water for this type of cleaning.
Hot water is really more effective in bleaching a pillow.
Then I put the pillow in the washing machine.
And I pour the hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar and liquid detergent.
There, I add the white vinegar...
And here the laundry...
Without forgetting hydrogen peroxide of course.
You can add essential oils now...
Then I let the water fill the tub to submerge the cushion.
I waited for the drum to turn a bit to mix the ingredients.
Then I stopped the program to let the pillow soak for 30 min.
If you have a soak cycle in your programs, use it and program it.
After soaking the pillow for 30 minutes, I restarted the normal wash cycle.
Once the wash/rinse cycle was complete, I ran another rinse cycle.
Why ? Just to make sure all products have been removed from the pillow!
To dry the pillow, I first added essential oils to the socks.
If you have orphan socks, now is the time to recycle them!
Then I placed an old tennis ball in the sock.
And I put them in the dryer with the pillow.
You can put one dryer ball or several.
These tennis balls (or dryer balls if you have them) will restore volume to the pillow.
In addition, your cushion will dry twice as fast. Find out why here.
You can also dry your pillows flat in the sun on top of your dryer.
But given the rainy weather in recent days, I chose to put mine in the dryer.
Note: although I have already put essential oils in during the wash, I wanted to be sure that the pillow smelled good when dry.
And that no vinegar smells remain in the pillow once placed on the bed.
That's why I added it to the sock. But it's up to you!
There you go, my pillow has regained all its whiteness naturally :-)
It's like brand new!
Easy, fast and efficient, right?
And no need for bleach. It's much more natural that way.
I was really impressed with how clean this pillow was.
All yellow halos are gone without the need to scrub.
You saw, it's easy to find snow-white pillows.
And you just need to add a few extra ingredients when washing!
I'm sure you'll be as happy as me to find a clean pillow that smells just as good.
Oh yes, know that you can use the essential oil that you like the most:lemon for a fresh scent, lavender to soothe... Or another!
It's no longer a secret.
One of the properties of hydrogen peroxide is its ability to whiten fabrics.
It therefore eliminates the ugly yellow marks that dirty the pillow.
White vinegar is very acidic. Thanks to its high acetic acid content, it cleans, disinfects and sanitizes the pillow.
The detergent removes all the dirt and removes the last traces.
Finally, essential oils give a pleasant scent to your pillow.
But depending on the essential oils chosen, they can also have a purifying action.
I find it always a bit embarrassing when changing the sheets to see such dirty pillows...
I always wonder how the hell I can have such yellow pillows.
And in addition, they are protected by pillowcases.
Weird isn't it?
So I did some research on the web...
And I found that all pillows turn yellow over time.
The reason ? It's because of body temperature.
To put it simply, it's perspiration that makes pillows so dirty.
What to add saliva to!
These fluids pass through the pillowcase to dirty the pillow.
If you want to limit this problem, you can get protective covers for the pillows.
Yes, we learn every day.
Needless to say, I was very happy to find out that I wasn't the only one in this situation.
You can use this recipe to clean a yellowed foam pillow or cushion, bolster, or even a yellowed comforter or pillowcase.
You can put 2 pillows in your machine. But be careful not to overload it.
Perhaps your machine allows you to interrupt the program and open the door on the way.
In this case, in step 1, wait until the water fills the tank.
Then put the pillow in the machine.
And pour in the ingredients for your whitening product.
Stir so that all the ingredients mix well.
Push the pillow well so that it is submerged in the water.
And let it soak for 30 min (or one soak cycle of your machine).
This is when you can add the essential oils.
If you can, now is the time to add 4-5 drops of essential oil.
Close the lid securely to allow the washing machine to continue its cycle.
All that remains is to start the washing and rinsing cycle.
