Do your towels or clothes smell musty?
It often happens if they are not properly dried on the drying rack!
The problem is that this bad smell is difficult to remove...
I tried to wash a towel that smelled musty with my laundry detergent, but it still reeked of mildew!
Luckily, I discovered a great grandma's trick to get rid of the musty smell on a towel or a piece of clothing.
The trick is to wash your towel or linen hot with 250 ml of white vinegar . The result is simply AMAZING! Watch:
- 250 ml of white vinegar
- 250 g baking soda
1. Put your bath towels (3 or 4 maximum) in the washing machine.
2. Do not put detergent in the detergent drawer. Simply pour the white vinegar over the towels, and let it do its magic!
3. Start a wash cycle, choosing the hottest temperature 90°C.
4. When the cycle is complete, dry the towels in the sun on a clothesline, spreading them out evenly.
If you have a dryer, dry the towels with dryer balls.
5. If the musty smell has not disappeared, repeat the wash at 90°C, but replacing the white vinegar with 250 g of baking soda and always without detergent.
There you go, now your towels or clothes smell clean :-)
Easy, fast and efficient, right?
This technique is ultra effective in totally eliminating the musty smell on your towels or any linen!

If they can smell slightly of vinegar when they come out of the machine, be aware that this smell disappears quickly when drying.
I don't recommend you to use apple cider vinegar because its smell is stronger than white vinegar.
To naturally scent your towels, you can also add 3 to 5 drops of your favorite essential oil to the detergent drawer. It works great!
- White vinegar contains acetic acid which naturally removes bacteria and moisture trapped in the fibers of the towel. In addition to its deodorizing properties, white vinegar is also perfect for softening the fabric of clothing.
- Baking soda is one of the best grandmother's remedies to neutralize even the most stubborn bad smells.
- As for the hot cycle of the washing machine, high temperatures kill bacteria and microbes.
