If you find yourself in need of a little extra elbow room and don't have the budget to go out and buy a new desk, don't worry. A simple and inexpensive plastic folding table can easily be dressed up to look like part of a sleek, modern, minimalist desk.
The first step before any painting project? A little elbow grease for a solid scrub. The paint sticks to a clean surface, not a dirty one.
After cleaning, prime. The primer is SO important, especially when talking about plastic and metal. There's nothing worse than working on a project only to see the paint peel at least a small bump a few days later.
Apply all of the primer and paint in thin, even coats.
Next I painted my trusty little stool with a semi-gloss white spray paint and once it dried I prepped it for the copper treatment on the legs. I used some plastic wrap and painter's tape to protect the clean white paint on the seat and then got ready to get the spray paint off.
Sometimes conditions just aren't ideal for spray painting. The bubbling seen here is the result of trying to paint in a garage that was too cold. Back to the drawing board.
Once I had spray painted my table the same semi-gloss white and given it a day to dry, I carried it up the stairs and prepared to tackle the legs. After the copper spray paint debacle, I decided to go with liquid gold.
I used a small, soft brush to avoid harsh brush strokes.
Gold smells bad, so if you're using it, open your windows and wear a mask to avoid paint fume headaches.
Since this table will only be used lightly, I decided not to apply a clear coat to seal it. However, if I start to see wear I'll do a few touch ups and then spray on a clear coat.
