Cut (6) ten-foot lengths of twine.
Gather your strings in groups of two and fold them in half. Place each folded group around the hoop. Tuck the folded end under the hoop and pull the ends over the hoop and through the loop created by the folded end. Repeat with the other two groups and space them equally around the hoop, 10-1/2 inches apart.
To create a square knot, lay all four strands from one of your bundles on a table. Take the outer string on the left side and place it on top of the other strings. Take the outer chain on the right side and place it over the chain that is found, then under the two middle chains, then through the loop on the left. Pull hard and repeat these steps starting on the right. Lay the far right chain over the other strands. Take the far left rope and pull it over the cross strand, under the middle strands and through the loop on the left. Pull hard and you have completed a square knot.
Continue adding square knots until you have three full knots in each string grouping.
Three inches from the top of your square knots, you will begin the spiral. To create a nice spiral effect, simply repeat the first half of the square knot. Lay your strands flat. Place the outer left strand over the remaining strands. Place the outer right strand over the rope across, under the center chains, and through the left loop. Pull hard. Repeat, always starting with the outer left string. (Instead of alternating which side the knot starts on, start on the same side and the macrame will twist.) Continue half knots until your spiral measures 1-1/2 inches. Repeat on the other two groups.
To create interest, divide the threads into new groupings. Lay the hoop flat and place the strands of two groups of strings that are next to each other on the table. From the left bunching, take the two right strands and from the right bunching, take the two left strands to create a new group of four. Three inches from the top of the spirals join this new group with two full square knots. Repeat these steps for the other threads.
Six inches from the last knots, tie all the strands together with the half knot. Choose two long, outer strands. Lay the outer left strand over all the other strands. Place the right outer strand over the strand coming through, then under the middle strands, and through the loop on the left. Pull hard and repeat until you have a spiral that measures two inches.
Add the final square knots to create a hanging loop. Six inches above your big spiral, complete three square knots, move up one inch, and then create two more square knots. Cut out the bites and your mobile is ready to hang. Use the gap between the groups of square knots to hang your mobile from a hook.
Bundle your herbs into bundles and tie with string. Insert one side of the S hook into the loop of the rope.
Hang your mobile and hook your herbs on the ring. Allow your herbs to dry completely and enjoy them until next year's harvest.
