You really only need one thing; A good microfiber cloth. The rest is optional. Here is a list:
For a flawless result, we recommend using a microfiber cloth as they are lint-free and won't damage your screen. You can easily get a microfiber six-pack from Amazon for less than $9. Non-microfiber cleaning cloths, paper towels, or other fabrics (yes, I mean your shirt) can leave traces like streaks, lint and micro-scratches. If you don't have a household microfiber handy, an eyeglass cleaning cloth will also work.
Yes! The fabric is designed to work like a dust and dirt magnet, so you can easily remove dust and light stains with a dry microfiber cloth.
A damp cloth can help remove some more stubborn stains. This is where the spray bottle comes in. Use it to dampen the cloth (not the screen!) by covering it with a mist of warm water.
If you're dealing with screens covered in grease stains, you can add a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent to warm water. While a damp cloth can remove grease on its own, soap will help dissolve and therefore loosen surface grease.
Physical. Hot water has more heat and therefore more kinetic energy than cold water. This energy is transferred to anything that comes into contact with the water, meaning it will dissolve dirt or soap faster. However, if the water is too hot, it could damage the plastics, which is why we recommend lukewarm water.
Bottom line, you shouldn't use anything other than what's recommended above and you should use common sense. More precisely:
We recommend that you turn off the device before you begin.
Assuming your screen is only lightly covered in dust and fingerprints, we recommend using a dry microfiber cloth. Start at the top and gently Wipe the screen from side to side and back, moving slowly down until you have cleaned the entire surface. Lightly rub the remaining spots until they are clean and wipe the screen once more.
If your screen is slightly dirtier, moisten one end of the cloth by spraying it with warm water. To remove most of the dough, carefully wipe the entire surface in small circles with the wet end. Gently rub the remaining stitches until they are gone. If you have trouble removing dirt with a damp cloth, add a little soap to the warm water before spraying the cloth again. Treat stains individually before completely cleaning the entire screen. Finish by wiping the screen one last time from side to side and top to bottom with the dry end of the cloth.
Don't forget to clean your microfiber cloth after use! Soak in warm soapy water, rinse well, and air dry.
Incidentally, The Wall Street Journal tested cleaning products and found that when it came to cleaning screens, water and a microfiber cloth were just as effective as dedicated kits. However, to remove dirt and smudges from keyboards and touchpads, they recommended the proven cleaning products.
