Pallets have been the stars of DIY gardens for many years. That's good, because it will allow you to find many tutorials on the web to achieve each of your desires. Recoverable on construction sites, in stores or various companies, the latter are generally free. Be careful, however, to ask permission from the site managers, but also to select non-toxic pallets. Avoid those marked with an MB (methyl bromide treatment) and those labeled EUR, EPAL, SNCF or Europe because they are consigned. Likewise, always choose untinted palettes.
Before you start your builds, you'll need to thoroughly clean your paddles to get rid of any residue. Do not hesitate to sand them down and then apply an undercoat of paint if you want to color them afterwards. Once this operation is completed, follow your desires. For a natural tint, a light or dark tinted wood stain can protect your pallets from bad weather.
Once this preparation is done, you can make a magnificent garden furniture. Be sure to gather the number of pallets necessary for an outdoor sofa as large as you want. By following the assembly indicated by the guide you have chosen, you will easily obtain the necessary seat to enjoy sunny moments. To be well settled, the ideal will be to have a mattress with the right dimensions on the seats and soft cushions against the backrests.
By stacking 2 or 3 additional pallets, depending on the desired height, you will obtain an ideal coffee table for sipping a cold drink or resting your last reading. Are you afraid of dropping some of your belongings between the boards? Attach a Plexiglas plate (also salvaged) or take inspiration from our next idea to personalize your coffee table.
Thanks to the pallets, you have the choice. By breaking down one of them, you can reassemble it to create a large planter. Whether you prefer it low and long or narrower, but deep, all desires are allowed. Lay a garbage bag at the bottom, lifting it up the sides. If you have geotextile fabric or burlap, go around the inside of your planter. Finally, you can mix soil and potting soil in it and then plant your flowers or vegetables there.
You need more space ? Do not deprive yourself of planting, however. To make your vertical garden, you will need 2 pallets of the same dimensions. Start by dismantling the largest slats of the first. Dismantle the next one to get 3 floors. Using a screwdriver, arrange the slats removed from the first to create the bottom of your bins. Then all you have to do is place garbage bags and geotextile as previously indicated to obtain your vertical garden. However, be careful what you choose to plant. The two lower floors will not be able to accommodate flowers or plants that are too tall.
Do you want to create a palisade? Several options are possible thanks to the pallets. For the first, you will only need to completely disassemble several pallets. Choose the longest slats to arrange them horizontally, with about thirty centimeters apart. Then attach other slats vertically to create a low palisade.
Do you need more height? It is possible to superimpose pallets directly on the edge. Be careful, however, to solidify the whole thing well so as not to see your wall of pallets fall like a house of cards at the first gust of wind. The same fabrications can be used against a wall to hide it or just make it look nicer.
Still using the method of geotextile fabric, you can create planters of various styles.
If you have 3 or 4 concrete blocks at your disposal, you can line the edges of these with geotextile fabric or garbage bags before placing a mixture of soil and compost. Then, to you the small plantations! Let your creativity do the talking and don't hesitate to paint your new planters, give them a graphic design, make their gray concrete look disappear, which could stand out in a bucolic space.
Do you have a much larger number of concrete blocks? You have two choices. If you need to create a flower border, you can make it using the method stated above and arranging each of the blocks one after the other. The other choice is more work-intensive, but can help you achieve a larger garden space, defining its frame with cinder blocks. It will then be better to create a foundation to solidify the whole.
Wine boxes are often useful for decoration. In your garden, why not turn them into romantic-style planters. Again, the use of a geotextile fabric, burlap or a garbage bag will allow you to do things right. However, it is better to place your flower boxes in a space sheltered from bad weather (under an awning for example). If this option is not possible, you will have to treat your wine boxes to protect them from humidity before processing them. Ideally, choose to plant plants or flowers that require little watering. This will prevent the wood of your crates from being suddenly overwhelmed by too much humidity.
The gutters in your house have just been changed and you don't want to see the old ones go to a recycling center? Turn them into pretty wall planters. To do this, you just need to drill a few holes in it so that the water does not stagnate there during watering. Then, lay out the burlap in your gutters, soil and your plantations. You can then hang them on a wall, alternating the levels at which to arrange them. Pay attention to the final weight of your planter. Depending on the type of wall you plan to install them on, it will need to be strong enough to support the weight of a long gutter or several small ones.
We have already offered to create a coffee table using pallets, but other solutions exist. If you, or someone close to you, has had a tree felled, don't hesitate to cut it down to make one or more coffee tables on which to put your glasses or your cup of coffee.
Have you recovered a large reel of cable, also called a reel? Many people use them to turn them into an outdoor table. If, very often, the latter are arranged as they are, it is entirely possible to paint them or treat them against bad weather.
Do not throw away your used tires. Using a glue gun, rope, a plate cut to the right size, you can make the perfect coffee table. To do this, you just need to place your plate in the center of the tire. Then you can glue your rope by wrapping it around the tire, while going up until you place your last length of rope on the perimeter of your plate. If you need an outdoor pouf, you can perfectly use the same process while placing padding on your plate. Then place a piece of fabric on top, stapling it on the hidden side of your plate.
When you have a garden, it is not uncommon to want to take advantage of it when night falls. To bring light without spending a single euro, you can count on your cans or glass containers.
Tin cans can be pierced on the sides to inscribe small shapes through which the light of tealight candles will pass. Glass containers can be bottles of the same size, glass yogurt pots or jam jars. By placing LED wires inside, you will be able to move your light source where you need it. If you have the necessary tools, it is also possible to fix them under a wooden plate to make a pendant light.
In each case, give free rein to your inspiration, your creativity, your desires. The main thing will be to create a space in which you will feel good and which you can fully enjoy.
