Having a private pool at home is not without constraints. Yes, to enjoy your body of water with peace of mind, the installation of a security system has been mandatory since 2004. No one can escape it. Follow the guide!
To limit the number of domestic drownings, the entry into force of law 2003-9 of January 3, 2003 obliges owners to equip their pools with a safety device. Indeed, failure to comply with this regulation is punishable by a fine of 45,000 euros and a criminal sanction. Are concerned by this legislation all outdoor swimming pools buried and semi-buried for private or collective use. However, inflatable and removable pools are excluded.
The primary purpose of these safety systems is to prevent drowning of children under five and pets. Four types of equipment are then offered to individuals for securing their swimming pool. These are:fences, alarms, protective covers and swimming pool enclosures. These devices can be used separately or together. However, for maximum security, I decided to combine two. And my choice fell on the protective barriers and the immersion detector.
In addition, for optimized efficiency, the safety devices intended for private inground swimming pools must comply with the standards imposed by AFNOR and labeled French Standards (NF). Thus, when purchasing my detection alarm, I checked that the item chosen was certified, NF P90-307, otherwise NF P90-306 for protective barriers. Otherwise, it is NF P90-308 certification for tarpaulins and NF P90-309 for shelters.
Barriers are the pool equipment most used by individuals. And I favored this installation, because in my opinion it is one of the four devices ensuring maximum security since the minimum height of a pond fence must be 1.10 meters. In addition, there is plenty of choice in terms of its design:you can thus harmonize the fence with the coating of your swimming pool. As for the gate, I bet on a manual locking model.
Do you find fences unsightly? Then opt for the covers. Available as an automatic submerged and above-ground roller shutter, or as a thermal cover with bars, these protective covers close the pools when not in use. In addition, in addition to protecting the body of water from dead leaves and insects, this equipment can also be used for the wintering of the pool. The only drawback is that there is always a risk of drowning when the cover is not in place. This is why it must be associated with an alarm.
Finally, as a last resort, you can also opt for a swimming pool enclosure. Very expensive compared to other equipment, this installation is completely closed. Thus, with this system, swimming in the pools is possible even if the sun is not shining. Be careful, however, because the existence of these safety devices does not exempt parents from supervising their children. Remember that "caution is the mother of safety"!
