Many people opt for the installation of a water point outside the house. This creates a pleasant atmosphere of escape and relaxation, especially when the water point is decorated with aquatic plants. However, the choice of this type of plant should not be taken lightly, because each species contains a unique specificity.
Decorators choose aquatic plants based on the aesthetic and practical quality of the plant. First of all, you must always put oxygenating plants in your water point. They naturally maintain the water in the pool and help keep the air clean. The most common plants that have this specificity are Myriophyllum verticillatum, Ceratophyllum, and Callitriche. You should know that a cutting of 4 to 8 plants of this species can occupy 1/5 of the surface of the water point.
Otherwise, your water feature should also have bank plants. They are composed of small or large leaves and are generally not permanently submerged. These include water hyacinth, water iris, yellow water lily and water clover. All should not be submerged more than 25 cm. On the other hand, the lotus, the water pesse and the water lily are deep pond plants.
You have the choice between two methods to successfully plant your plant in one fell swoop. Shallow aquatic plants can be installed directly in pockets of soil at the edge of the basin. It is necessary to prepare the ground well by putting a thick felt between the ground and the tarpaulin. This avoids piercing the liner. Then the plant clods will be laid out in the soil layer of 20-30 cm. Do not forget to cover the surface with gravel in order to maintain the soil around the edge of the pond.
The other process concerns aquatic plants that resist deep water points of more than 30cm. Here you need plastic mesh baskets or several coconut fiber bags placed on the tarpaulin. Bricks and overturned pots can also be used as supports. To ensure the development of the plants, take fairly large baskets:5 to 7 liters for water lilies and lotuses and 10 to 20 liters for Thalia and Pontederia. Fill this container with clay while inserting the root ball of the plant up to the level of the collar. And to finish, fill the remaining surface with lava stones.
Planting aquatic plants is not too difficult to achieve. You just have to respect their needs to have a multicolored ornamental pond. Note that the best time to grow aquatic plants is between April and June. In the first year, sow valuable plants such as Iris, Pontederia and Water Lilies.
On the works side, only use a PVC tarpaulin to build the water point. Then if you want to have a waterfall and a fascinating jet of water, opt for the water pump.
