Following the article "basic fertilizer , it's now", a user (whom I thank here) asked me a question that deserves an elaborate answer.
Can we skip eating? This short answer obviously needs to be qualified.
Plants need to eat. In principle, they must find everything they need in the ground, at least when they are in their natural, wild state. But in culture, in a garden, man always does exports:picking, evacuation of dead leaves, pruning... therefore, the nutrients that the plant has drawn from the soil and put into some of these organs is evacuated and cannot back into the ground. This is why in culture, it is good to bring back what we have removed.
An old adage was whispered to me by a gardener:what's on the ground isn't yours, if you take it, give it back.
Now, plants like geese should not be stuffed, unless you want to market a vegetable foie gras...
