After the orchid, it is another wonder of winter that has settled in our interior:the amaryllis . Coming from the Amaryllidaceae family, this bulb indoor plant is indeed very popular as Christmas approaches in its bright red version. A success that also comes from its beauty due to its majestic trumpet-shaped flowers, its abundant flowering but also its exceptional height. Indeed, some flowers can reach a width of 20 centimeters, an elegant spectacle that takes place from December to May. But if we love it, we don't always know how to grow it .
Like any plant the amaryllis request for maintenance . First of all, you must plant your bulb in a pot that is neither too small nor too big, then bury it only halfway up, with a rich mixture of compost soil. Then place the plant in a bright place (do not expose it to direct sunlight) and water it little but regularly. With these maintenance tips your amaryllis will be even more beautiful. But one day or another the flowers will fade, don't panic there is a trick to make it bloom again .
To do this, cut the stems of the flowers , but above all do not cut the small shoots. These will partly feed the bulb and thus regenerate it. Sprinkle then your plant once a week, while giving it 2-3 times a month flower fertilizer until the warm weather arrives. At this point take your potted amaryllis outside, the leaves will then turn yellow and dry, remove them. When finished, bring your plant indoors and store it in a cool, dry room . To bloom again, your amaryllis bulb must rest at least 10 to 12 weeks in its conditions.
