Tomato sauces often come in large packages. If you're alone and you don't want to eat tomatoes all over the place for a week, here's a very simple trick to avoid throwing the rest of a brick in the trash:
Freeze the rest of the sauce in an ice cube tray.
You have a great recipe for spaghetti Bolognese that you got from your Italian great-aunt, but just using all the contents of a brick of tomato coulis is decidedly too much. So, to avoid having to throw away what's left, I suggest you freeze it.
The method?
Very simple, you pour the tomato coulis into one of your ice cube trays and then go to the freezer. Not silly and really practical, because all you have to do is take the number of tomato ice cubes necessary for your famous recipe and use them as you would with a classic coulis.
Very practical, this trick can be used for all kinds of sauces. Me, I freeze almost all my leftover sauce... Ok, that's a lot of ice cube trays in my fridge, but still, it's very practical and helps out. Here, a little easy recipe just for you that will quickly enhance a simple pasta dish.
• In the same way you had to freeze the rest of a delicious cooking juice from a roast (pork for example) and melt the ice cubes well with a little fresh cream, salt and pepper. And here in 2 minutes, a delicious sauce ready to pour over your pasta dish that looked so sad! Still better than ketchup, right?
With this trick, more waste, and who says less waste, says benefit for the wallet.
One last bit of advice, once thawed, a product cannot under any circumstances be re-frozen ! Otherwise, you risk a nice food poisoning.
