Laigneville, a French commune located in Picardy, has been talked about throughout the region.
Why ? Because the mayor has found a response particularly suited to those responsible for illegal waste left in nature.
Here is the story:one day, one of the inhabitants of Laigneville was walking quietly in the woods. During his walk in the middle of nature, a truck passed him.
Funny route for a truck! The curious walker observed this truck which stopped a little further. A huge racket then caught his attention.
Approaching, our man thought he was the victim of a bad hallucination:the owner of the truck was simply emptying a mountain waste right in the middle of the fields!
He probably thought he was out of sight and thought he could act with impunity. Error... Because our walker, outraged, alerted the municipal council of the commune.
For the mayor of Laigneville, Christophe Dietrich, this new complaint was decisive. Alas, it was not the first time he had received some, but this was one too many!
The cup was full... Companies and individuals who pollute the environment by dumping their waste were going to find out the hard way.
The mayor then decided to take matters into his own hands, by adopting original but extremely effective measures.
The response from the shepherd to the shepherdess was not long in coming. The mayor has done everything possible to return the waste thrown into the environment to the polluters.
This measure was not easy to apply. It was first necessary to access this waste abandoned in the middle of nowhere and then to determine who was the owner.
But by dint of will and patience, this unconventional method has proven effective. Illegally dumped waste was returned to its dishonest owners.
We imagine the faces of the polluters when they found themselves with their pile of garbage in front of their door!
We bet they were really pissed off. But let's hope they've thought of other ways to get rid of their junk and clutter.
The news spread quickly. And the initiative of the mayor of Laigneville inspires other elected officials from towns and villages in France and abroad.
"You can't imagine the number of elected representatives in France, but also abroad, who call me to do the same thing. I'm not doing anything illegal; I'm just returning their belongings to their owners ."
But the best part of all this is that this original approach has proven itself. According to Christophe Dietrich, it reduces litter thrown into nature by 90%.
Even if it is unconventional, it achieves the main objective:to protect nature.
The elected officials of this municipality were able to take the necessary measures to fight against polluters, rather than waiting idly by.
