What to do with potato peelings?
Here I show you how to turn them into organic dishwashing liquid.
Yes yes, you read that right about washing-up product!
How is that possible?
Potatoes contain solanine, a kind of saponin.
It's a bit like a natural soap that has real washing and degreasing power.
My grandmother gave me her recipe for foaming dishwashing liquid.
And I admit that I was so impressed with the result that I now use it daily.
For that, all you need is potato skins and water . Watch:
Contents
- peelings of 8 potatoes
- large hermetic glass jar of about 1 liter
- 750 ml of boiling water
- strainer
- bottle
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
1. Wash the potatoes and peel them.
2. Put all the peelings in the glass jar.
3. Fill the pot with boiling water.
4. Add baking soda.
5. Close the jar and leave to cool for 45 minutes.
6. Once the mixture has cooled, shake the jar.
7. Place the jar in the fridge for 12 hours.
8. Once the time has elapsed, pass the mixture through the colander to separate the liquid from the peelings.
9. Collect the liquid and put it in the bottle.
And There you go ! Your homemade and organic dishwashing liquid made from potato peelings is already ready :-)
Easy, fast and efficient, right?
Now just put some of this DIY dishwashing liquid on your sponge and do your dishes as usual.
You have seen ? It foams like a real cleaning product!
Rinse well with warm water.
And all this without the need for any expensive and polluting chemicals!
Are your dishes very dirty? Do not panic, this product is really effective.
You can soak the dishes in hot water with potato dish soap for a few minutes before washing.
You'll see, it'll make your life easier.
This is where adding baking soda comes into its own.
Why ? Because it helps to degrease your plates and dishes.
This homemade dishwashing liquid is 100% natural.
It does not contain any preservatives.
This is why it does not keep very long and may begin to ferment.
Especially if it is kept in a room at more than 20°.
As soon as you smell a slightly pungent smell, it's a sign that the product is going sour.
I recommend that you stop using it as soon as the smell is strong or a gooey particle forms on top.
So how do you keep it?
Well, just in a cool place. Stored in the fridge, it easily lasts 8 days.
Otherwise, prepare only a small amount:the one you need for 4 or 5 days.
