I love having a house that smells clean!
That's why I've always used air fresheners at home.
They make it easy to fight bad odors.
The problem is that I have discovered that they are bad for your health, especially that of children.
So I threw all these Febreze-type air fresheners in the trash because they are full of harmful products...
Luckily, I found an easy recipe for making my own gel air fresheners with essential oils.
The advantage of this long-lasting gel air freshener is that it scents your home for weeks!
And rest assured, because all the ingredients in this recipe are 100% natural!
Zero toxins, zero risk of allergies...
This deodorizing gel is not only quick to make, but also super economical! Watch:
- 28 g powdered gelatin (about 6 sachets of this powdered gelatin)
- 2 glasses of 250 ml of fresh water
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 20 to 30 drops of essential oil of your choice (see mixing ideas at the end of the article)
- food coloring to personalize your air fresheners (optional)
- glass jars or other heat-resistant containers
- single-use wooden chopsticks (for stirring the hot mixture in the jars)
1. In a small saucepan, boil 250 ml of water.
2. Sprinkle gelatin in boiling water.
3. Beat everything with a whisk, until the gelatin is completely dissolved and takes on a very smooth consistency.
4. Add the salt and the second glass of cold water.
5. Beat again with a whisk and set the mixture aside.
6. Add the desired amount of essential oil (between 20 to 30 drops) in each glass jar.
Optional: if desired, also add food coloring to each jar.
7. Quickly pour the hot, runny gelatin over the essential oil and food coloring.
8. Stir everything with the wooden chopsticks until you get a uniform color.
9. Leave to cool uncovered on a heat-resistant surface.
There you go, your gel air freshener with essential oils is already ready :-)
Easy, fast and effective, right?
It is perfect for continuously diffusing a pleasant fragrance in your home.
Simply wait for the mixture to cool to room temperature.
Then, all you have to do is put your gel air fresheners in the strategic places of the house where you want to breathe in a soft and pleasant scent.
But why add a tablespoon of salt to an air freshener?
Know that salt is used to fight against the formation of mold. You can also replace it with a few drops of vodka.

Here are my favorite essential oil blends:
Basil-lemon air freshener:
- 20 drops of basil essential oil
- 8 drops of lemon essential oil
Orange-rosemary air freshener:
- 25 drops of sweet orange essential oil
- 5 drops of rosemary essential oil (Note: the scent of rosemary is very strong, so don't overdo it!)
“Pine forest” air freshener:
- 25 drops of pine essential oil
- 3 drops of lemon essential oil
- 2 drops of sweet orange essential oil
- 1 drop of bergamot essential oil
Pure lavender air freshener:
- 30 drops of lavender essential oil
“Parfums de Provence” air freshener:
- 20 drops of lavender essential oil
- 5 drops of thyme essential oil
- 2 drops of lemon essential oil
