Create these extraordinary and airy decorations with everyday items:yarn, glue, cardboard, toothpicks and wax paper. It couldn't be easier.

Start by drawing your desired star shape on a piece of paper. There are many available online or track down a cookie cutter. Then place the paper on a piece of cardboard.

Lay a sheet of waxed paper over the template.

Push a wax paper stick through the cardboard where two lines meet.

In a small bowl, pour a thick layer of craft glue.

Cut a very long piece of patio and soak it in the glue.

Tie the end of the thread to a toothpick at the end of the star.

Wrap the yarn around each of the toothpicks to form a basic outline.

Use the remaining yarn to fill in the center of the star with the glue-soaked yarn. The more you add, the more substantial the embellishment will be and the longer it will need to dry.

When you've filled in the star, cut the yarn and string into a loop so you can hang it. Set the ornament aside to dry completely.

When the ornament is completely dry, carefully remove it and give it pride of place on your Christmas tree.
