The need to contact your municipality to obtain a building permit therefore depends on the planned surface of your kennel.
If you are required to apply for a building permit for your kennel due to its surface area exceeding 20 m 2 , you can do so by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt addressed to your municipality or submit your request directly to the town hall. The building permit application form must be accompanied by a number of documents, the list of which you will find on the website of the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion.
If the enclosure for your dog is between 5 and 20 m 2 , a building permit is not required by local planning regulations. On the other hand, you must submit a preliminary declaration of work to your municipality. Note:this authorization is required for all new constructions, including a kennel, regardless of their surface area, if your house and its garden are located near a historic monument.
If the kennel you want to build in your garden does not exceed an area of 5 m 2 and a height of 12 m, the work you are going to carry out does not require an authorization request from your municipality.
