Not long ago I painted part of the wall of our living room black. I did that with a concrete-look paint so that this wall is not pitch black, but has a lived-in look. Super cool! And in itself it is not difficult to paint a wall with this paint. But there are also other possibilities to achieve a vintage look with paint. The ideas below are great to try out at home.

Vintage paint is often referred to as chalk paint. There is even paint that is actually called Vintage Paint. But really, this all comes down to the same thing. It is water-based paint that gives a matte appearance, creating a vintage look. Very nice. But also quite 'vulnerable', because the matte of the paint also makes all irregularities stand out more strongly. So you have to have a very tight wall, or you have to be able to accept that every scratch, bump and dent is very visible. Not a problem if your wall is full of damage, of course, because then it is really vintage. But if you only have a little damage here and there, it is very noticeable with vintage paint.
Would you still like to create a vintage look, but in a different way? Then I can also do that with regular paint, Sikkens paint for example, or Sigma wall paint, it doesn't matter that much. Choose the color you like or would like to experiment with and proceed as follows.
As you can see, you don't need a lot of paint for this way of painting. So just grab a small jar of paint in the desired color and a roller to apply wall paint. Don't get the roller too wet with paint and make sure you don't have too much paint towards the ends of what should be your flat. It is the intention that your roller is dry towards the end. This will give you this vintage look with regular paint.
What I find so cool is that you have all kinds of options. You can make a simple plane, but also work in the shape of a mountain like in the third photo, or try to focus on making a circle. About then eh. Your work will be the most beautiful if you let it match your interior. Not so much in terms of paint color, but precisely in terms of shape and purpose. As you can see above, all surfaces really have a suitable place in the interior.
Above, the vintage look with the paint is also very well done. Precisely by working in the opposite way. First give the wall a dark color and then with a light color over it. With the same technique I described above you get a completely different effect, don't you think?
The middle photo shows the vintage painting technique perfectly. By not only painting your wall in this way, but also spraying a beautiful text with letters, you get a unique wall. And you can also say what you have on your heart 😉 . I'm going to remember this one for a wall in our office. So beautiful!
Working with two different colors that are in the same line also ensures that you get a vintage look in a simple way. And it doesn't matter what color you put on the wall. Also beautiful pink is not ugly!
You can also create a beautiful vintage look with watercolors. Also nice to try once. Something different than watercolors on an A4, don't you think? By varying the amount of water you use with the paint, you can create a color difference. Just like you do on paper. For example, work from dark to light, or have fun with different colors of watercolor. Also nice! And do you like nice and messy? Then you create a few big drips! If you don't want to try it yourself with watercolor on the wall, you can also find wallpaper with these types of prints.
Have I given you ideas to get started with vintage paint in your home? If so… I'd love to see the result when you're done! Good luck.
