As an interior freak I can warm to different living trends. So I'm not always into a certain trend, but my love goes from boho atmosphere to industrial and from Scandinavian to urban jungle. So you can go in all directions with me 😉 . I also like to follow trends when it comes to dining tables and I was almost tempted by the latest trend of oval and round dining tables. We ended up sticking with our rectangular dining table, which I gave a completely different look. It has now become a concrete look dining table. We made this choice purely for financial reasons.
We already had the rectangular dining table, and I still think the frame is beautiful. The magazine, I was completely done with that, but that has now also been resolved.
Whatever shape dining table you choose, there is something to be said for every table. For example, I find an oval dining table very practical in terms of shape. It is a shape that quickly fits into a room, especially in narrow spaces. Especially for our renovation - when we had some extra walls - an oval dining table would have been a godsend. Now the corners of our rectangular dining table were somewhat in the way of our pantry and the sliding doors.
That problem has now also been solved, because we have removed the pantry, but it is of course characteristic of an oval dining table. No sharp corners, so you can't hurt yourself. This way you have a longer dining table in your room, but the rounded sides ensure that you have more room to move in your dining room in that place. It is true that that advantage can also be a disadvantage at your table. You can't easily sit opposite each other with two people on this narrow part.
Another advantage of an oval table is that you sit more comfortably around the table. You actually 'nick' with this the biggest advantage of a round table. At an oval table of 3.00 meters long you can easily get by with 8 chairs. At Giga Meubel you have all kinds of variants in the range of different brands. So do you want to compare something? Then check there.
If you go for a rectangular dining table, then you belong to 'the crowd'. Most people opt for a rectangular table. Not surprising, because the biggest advantage of this shaped dining table is that it offers a lot of space. You can put a lot on the table compared to the other table shapes. You can also place the dining table against the wall, which is also an advantage that no other dining table offers.
A rectangular dining table of 2.80 meters long offers space for 8 chairs. And on the sides you can actually also lose 2 chairs, so in total you can sit here with 10 people. Effectively, this table is therefore the most convenient. However, you should bear in mind that a rectangular table takes up more space due to its shape and that you will bump into it more quickly.
We have seen more and more round dining tables in recent years. Very nice, but not my favorite. I don't think it would fit well with us in space either. However, a round dining table also has its advantages. For example, you sit most comfortably at a round table. Everyone can easily look at each other and playing a game at this table is really ideal. Do you have a dinner at a round dining table? Couldn't be nicer! In any case, Misjettle.nl is a big fan of its round dining table.
The disadvantage of a round dining table is that you can fit fewer chairs on it. If you want to be able to place 8 chairs at a round dining table, you really need a table of 150 cm.
We would of course also like to discuss the square dining table. This is clearly less common. Coincidentally, my brother and sister-in-law have such a table and it is also very cozy. But you really have to have the space for it, because for 8 chairs you also need a 150 cm dining table here, but that also includes the corners 😉 .
If you have an open kitchen and a spacious passage to your room, a square dining table is a great idea. One of the biggest drawbacks is the corners of the dining table that can hurt you and the fact that you can't add extra chairs. Or you should have a square table that you can make rectangular with a spacer.
Whatever shape dining table you choose, first consider how many chairs you must be able to fit and then see which shape fits best in your space.
