I like natural materials. Wood, steel, rattan, concrete. And I absolutely love the combination of them. Since our renovations in the house and in the garden (yep, still busy) I have always been working with the combination of these materials. For example, we have combined oak posts with concrete tiles under our roof. Super beautiful. But the decoration could have been a bit more natural, hence the rattan planter and chair. When the gate is eventually built, we will also have combined the steel!
Looking to create a homely atmosphere under the roof and in the garden, I started with a nice outdoor rug under the coffee table. That already looks a lot nicer, don't you think? But the whole thing was not finished in my opinion and there was still some shopping to be done. To start with, I'd like to have those nice wall circles on the back wall, but I'm not going to buy them until I've also painted the wall white and the door black. That has yet to happen.
But when looking for those wall circles I came across the Sweetlivingshop where they have all kinds of beautiful rattan products. My eye fell on a very beautiful rattan butterfly chair and a few beautiful rattan storage baskets. Now I don't need extra storage space outside, but I would like to put a few plants in a rattan basket. That looks so cozy outside too. And I think it worked out well!
A number of storage baskets are equipped with a plastic inner lining as standard, so that you can use them excellently as a rattan planter. I still use an inner pot with holes so that excess water can escape, but in this way the rattan basket itself is protected against moisture.
The most beautiful storage basket I have found here unfortunately does not have a plastic inner lining. Logical too, because you don't really need it as a storage basket. But if you use it as a rattan planter, it is handy again. I solved this -temporarily- by making a garbage bag on the inside. In this way I make sure that the water does not run out when I water my Alocasia, because it is also in an inner pot with holes in it. I think I'll try to buy another black outer pot (a cheap one) that will fit in the rattan basket and the inner pot can go in. Then it is completely beautiful. But don't you think it's a picture, this basket?
Of course I could have chosen a different planter, but I love the combination of rattan and jute with this planter. And then half black and half natural. I am very happy with it!
When combining, it is important that you keep an eye on the colors and materials with which you combine. For example, I still have a rattan planter inside that is natural in color. Very nice on our concrete floor, but on a wooden floor it would look less beautiful. Then the black variant from above fits very well again. If you have a white wooden floor, then the natural shade combines very nicely.
Natural tones also combine very nicely with furniture in concrete ciré. For example, in a bathroom or on our windowsills.
Would you still like to work with rattan on your wooden floor or parquet floor and have you seen a beautiful natural colour? Then choose to paint or spray that beautiful rattan storage basket or planter on the underside black, as you can see above. This way you still work with nice warm natural materials, but you can also apply a small color difference so that the basket or planter stands out a little more.
