Painting is nice, but cleaning is not so much.

If you use different colors, it's ideal! No need to wash the bucket with each change.

Use a thick plastic bag such as Ziploc or Albal to protect your bucket. With every color change, change plastic.
And when the work is done, just give the bucket a little swipe, which is hardly dirty!
