An old kitchen cabinet or an old cupboard door:these find very often a second youth once rid of what testifies to their age:the handles. We are going to see how to give a facelift to our old cupboard doors by making them very refined leather handles!
My low-end kitchen cabinet had been showing signs of failing for a while, but it came to fruition a week ago when a handful got left in my hands. What to do ? This is the nice and fast concept that I could find and wanted to share immediately.
For this trick I needed:
- a hammer.
- one or more roofing nails of the right length (i.e. the thickness of the door where I wanted to fix my handle).
- leather straps:depending on the quantity desired and the color, I am satisfied with a belt that I will cut out or an excursion to the nearest shoemaker.
- a good pair of scissors.
It is then a question of giving free rein to his imagination.
As far as I'm concerned, I started in my kitchen with the Holton Rower buckle (see photo):I simply fold a strip of leather over itself (I cut it to the desired size beforehand) and I secure it by driving one or two of my roofing nails into the top of this loop.
Alternate looks can be interesting:carried away by my momentum I added handles to dresser drawers, fixing them this time at both ends without making a loop, in a horizontal position:the shape of a simple bag or suitcase handle.
The concept is inexhaustible, the whole thing is to vary the positions, the number of nails, the length of the leather straps... In short, it's up to you to play and tell me everything in comments!
