My parents' old 70's chairs? I pick them up right away to customize them in 10 min. They are great, follow me, I'll show you how.
It's always worth digging through our parents' attic. You can find old memories of our early childhood, toys all chewed up, or barbie dolls whose hair I had cut (I have never been a hairdresser since...).
Beyond my precious memories, I also came across some rather nice furniture... good old 70's chairs, for a vintage style, nothing better!
We still had to face the facts:these chairs have potential, but the seat is really too ugly. Can we fix this?
But certainly ! Here are the tools needed to customize my chairs:
- my old vintage chairs
- a pair of scissors
- a stapler
- fabric , which can be found at €5 the meter at Ikea. Who says better?
The fabric will hide the seat of my chairs to give them a facelift.
I suck at sewing. And it's not tomorrow the day before that I'm going to become an outstanding stylist. So we'll have to keep it simple.
1. I start by cutting out a piece of fabric large enough to cover the seat of my chair. Better to take too much fabric than not enough.
2. Let's go for the first edge of my chair. I staple it underneath, one edge at a time.
3. I stretch the fabric properly so as not to have any wrinkles, and I staple the second edge, and then the others.
4. I have too much fabric under my chair:I had aimed wide to be sure to have enough. No worries, I fold the edges of the excess fabric under the chair, I stretch, and I staple. That way it looks nicer under my chair. She almost looks like a real seamstress...
Once you've started with one edge, it's very easy to do the rest. Just get started, with the chair in front of your eyes, you can visualize the work to be done much better.
I had 4 chairs to make, and the job is done. I'm very happy. The seats are no longer so old-fashioned. With the fabric I chose, they are great, while having that little retro side that I love.
A great bargain in terms of economy! It cost me next to nothing except the fabric. My chairs look like new, and no one will have the same, that's for sure!
