Hard to wash an ashtray. There are always some black pieces sticking to the bottom. But there is a very simple solution to clean it:salt and lemon.
As an ex-smoker, I stuffed myself with ashtrays to wash. Especially the day after parties when our dear friends had fun doing chemical experiments with drink and tobacco drowned in ashes.
It's never very pleasant to clean and there are always nice residues which even by rubbing do not disappear. and suddenly the smell of cold tobacco that we all love is not avoided.
So here's how I did it:
1. I do a normal prewash of my ashtrays
2. I rub the bottom with half a lemon
3. I sprinkle the bottom with fine salt
4. I rinse again.
And there you go, normally you get a clean, disinfected ashtray that smells good.
The best thing is to stop smoking and invite your guests to smoke outside and put out their cigarettes in a tin can that you will throw away once full.
