What solutions other than chlorine to treat your swimming pool?

Chlorine is still today the product commonly used to treat swimming pool water. However, as more and more people are intolerant to this chemical, the use of other solutions is growing. What are the alternatives?

What solutions other than chlorine to treat your swimming pool?

Why do we put chlorine in the pool?

Between sunscreens, normal desquamation, dust, perspiration, temperature changes, etc., the water in your pool gets dirty easily and quickly becomes cloudy when it is not treated regularly. Having disinfectant properties, chlorine is then used to eliminate bacteria present in the pool water, but also fungi and algae.

However, even if chlorine is cheap, it is important to point out that it is particularly rich in chloramines, a fairly aggressive chemical component that irritates the eyes and the skin, even the respiratory tract for the most sensitive people, not to mention of its unpleasant smell. And it is often the children who are unfortunately the most affected.

If you want to try other treatments for the water in your private pool, chlorine-free products are easily found on the internet. You just have to place an order on this specialized online store. And no matter which solution you turn to, each product comes with its instructions for use, as well as its instructions. Their use is therefore more than easy since all you have to do is follow the instructions.

Bromine

You can opt for bromine. Sold in tablets or powders, this oxidizing substance is a good alternative to chlorine.

Naturally present in seawater, this algaecide agent is odourless. Bromine is suitable for both regular treatments and for shock disinfection. Indeed, bromine can for example completely restore green water, or balance its pH level. And even if bromine can be placed in the skimmer, the use of a bromine activator is still recommended to optimize its action, but especially to control the pH level.

Attention, the regulatory level of bromine in a swimming pool must not exceed 2 or 4 milligrams per litre. If you dose it incorrectly, the product can be corrosive and aggressive. To this end, its handling must be done with great care.

Active oxygen

However, if you have a pool that does not exceed 40 cubic meters, active oxygen treatment may be better. Available as a kit, this basic maintenance product preserves the good quality of pool water.

Moreover, leaving no residue in the basin, since it volatilizes into oxygen after its application, this cleaner is one hundred percent ecological and therefore hypoallergenic. Its method of use is very simple. Indeed, the product is already packaged in pre-dosed sachets. All you have to do is drop it into your floating diffuser. It should be noted that if necessary, active oxygen can be used with other disinfectants.

Only here, active oxygen is not suitable for large pools, not to mention its expensive price compared to other disinfectants.

Salt electrolysis

The ultimate solution, especially for large pools, is to use an entirely natural method, salt electrolysis. Today very little still encountered in France, this treatment has many advantages to mention only its very economical and ecological side. How it works ? Through a hydrological circuit, the salt present in the water is naturally transformed into chlorine.
