Do you dream of a magnificent, perfectly structured garden, but you lack the time to maintain it? The Mediterranean garden is for you. It offers several significant advantages and will allow you to enjoy a superb green space all year round.
Many people want to have a beautiful garden in their backyard, but who - for lack of time to do the maintenance - prefer to abandon their project. Thanks to the Mediterranean garden, they finally have the opportunity to realize their dream. This dry garden is mainly made up of plants that can survive the harshest conditions such as lack of water, drying and violent winds or strong sunlight.
In my case, I was immediately seduced. My work being quite demanding, I could not devote several hours a week to gardening. This layout has allowed me to have a beautiful green space where I love to bask and laze on sunny days.
To create a Mediterranean garden, it is necessary to favor certain plants, especially perennials. Lavender, for example, is omnipresent in southern landscapes. It pleases because of its fragrant, graphic and easy to cultivate side. In order to bring a much more Mediterranean touch, you must not omit cultivating citrus fruits such as clementine, lemon or orange trees.
The ideal is to plant them near the house in order to have the chance to enjoy their sweet scents and also to protect them from cold winds. Always to appreciate their smells, I recommend planting rosemary, thyme or even sage in a rock garden or on the edge. Do not forget the essential olive trees which should be placed in well-drained, light and stony soil. Good sunshine is also essential to ensure their development.
As a finishing touch, incorporate palm trees into your garden. I love these plants because of their large leaves which remind me of the beaches or the seashores of the coastal regions. There are several species such as the Phoenix canariensis, the Washingtonia filifera or the Butia capitata. Several choices are possible, it all depends on your desires.
The layout of a Mediterranean garden is quite simple. First of all, you must expose it due south-east. This is important so that your plants can develop properly and to avoid water stagnation. To enhance the landscape, nothing prevents you from installing stony areas everywhere.
This technique is also effective in avoiding the harmful effects of erosion. A Florence cypress will have to be installed at the entrance of your house. The latter symbolizes a warm welcome.
As I have a pergola, I decided to put a bignone on it, which I particularly appreciate for its large orange bells. You can also do the same to decorate your structure.
If you don't like this plant, jasmine will do. Other choices are possible such as wisteria or vine. In fact, it's all about tastes and preferences.
