Having an important function in interior decoration, a carpet must be perfectly clean in order to correctly fulfill its role. However, as it is generally found in often very busy living rooms, it can easily be soiled or stained. Luckily, there are grandmother's tricks that make stain removal and cleaning easier.
Instead of using the stain-removing products sold in drugstores and supermarkets, there are many grandmother's tricks that can get rid of the toughest stains on carpets. For traces of red wine, it is possible to clean with Marseille soap. Simply apply the wet soap to the stain and then rinse with the help of a damp sponge. You must systematically rinse the sponge with clear water. If the mark left by the wine does not disappear, another solution is to rub it with a sponge and a solution of white vinegar mixed with water. This technique can effectively clean various other stains.
If it is a dark carpet, the dirt can disappear under the effect of mineral spirits which must be left to stand for at least an hour and a half. Then rub the affected area with a cloth previously soaked in water. On light carpets, a mixture of soapy water and a few drops of ammonia is effective in getting rid of all stains. Then simply rinse with a damp cloth.
If you want to renovate your carpet, but you do not want to go through the services of a professional, certain techniques can help you. For example, you can make an infusion made from potato peels. Dip your sponge in the resulting solution and scrub your carpet. After a few hours, rinse it off with a damp sponge.
In case you want to revive its colors, you can use baking soda with sparkling water. Moisten, let dry then brush gently. Another trick is to apply a mixture of ammonia, water and sawdust to your carpet. After brushing the carpet, all that remains is to vacuum it.
