Pottery can freeze . They then break, or at best, the plants suffer the aggression of the cold causing their death.
How to fix it if you can't return the pottery , for lack of space or because they are too heavy.
Several processes are possible:
– a full swaddle pot and plant with a winter veil (make several layers)
– protection of the pot and its surface with balled up newspaper. The paper being the insulator, make it hold by wrapping the pot with one or more nets (those of the oranges are fine) or a plastic. Avoid the black garbage bag, very ugly...
– If the pot allows it, place it in a larger pot and fill the space with balled up newspaper . To do this, recover containers of 5 or 7 liters, (or even larger) that are out of order because they are cracked.
– Do not water plants that need to overwinter.
– Case of flower boxes :even if the plants are not frost-proof, the pottery can suffer damage. Remember to protect them like the other pots.
– The must :make an entourage much larger than the planter with bamboo sticks or large bark and fill the space with natural moss
