Even if the main function of the garage is, above all, to shelter our cars, cleverly arranged, this space can also save us square meters and accommodate a laundry room, storage areas or a pantry. Here's how I did it.
I had the click when in the obligation to change the garage door, the room was suddenly exposed to the big day. I then realized how much the place had been transformed into a real mess, because of many personal belongings, furniture and articles piled up there for years, by ease and negligence, it must be admitted. Also, by doing a quick sorting, I realized that the vast majority of these objects were no longer of any use to me.
I also noticed that my vehicle only occupied part of the garage. By freeing up and optimizing the space, I could find other functionalities there. And that's how I created my first storage corners . For this purpose, I had a professional build some solid stainless steel shelves. Their realization still cost me dearly, but the investment was worth it.
I will classify the objects that I do not use a lot on a daily basis, as well as my old books and my vinyl collection. And to protect them from dust and humidity, I put them in closed and airtight storage boxes. Moreover, even if I am not a great handyman, the ironworker also made me a plate of sheet metal with perforations for my DIY and gardening tools. Finally, the walls have also been used to hang surfboards and bicycles.
By freeing up floor space without encroaching on the surfaces needed for the car, I still had the possibility of moving my laundry room there. Subsequently, I could recover the space occupied by the equipment in my kitchen and finally afford a dishwasher and more storage. From now on I will no longer have to bear the noise generated by the drum of the washing machine and the dryer, especially since I generally do my laundry at night.
Here the task was much more difficult, because it was necessary to take care of the arrival and the evacuation of water, not to mention the electrical circuit not well optimized in my garage. For my safety, the ground sockets had to be up to standard and suitable for these large household appliances to avoid tripping the meter. Otherwise, always with a view to saving space, the two machines have been placed on top of each other.
And insofar as the places are a bit dark, I had to completely overhaul the lighting system by installing new wall and ceiling lights. On the other hand, it was also necessary to make other wooden wall shelves for laundry accessories such as cleaning products, iron, drying rack and laundry bins. But the bulk of the work was the installation of an essential sink in a laundry room but also for washing your hands after tinkering or gardening.
