We've made the decision. In the end we opted for black wooden blinds in the living room, the kitchen, the hall and the utility room. There will also be a black blind in the toilet, but we still have to renovate the toilet first. For example, the entire front of our house will have the same nice sleek appearance, except for the round fronts. I would like to take you through our selection process. Because boy, boy, have we had quite a bit of choice stress with regard to all the considerations.

I don't know if you regularly read experiences from others when it comes to (for example) the choice of window coverings? I do. Especially when it comes to black blinds because opinions are so divided about it. I've read quite a bit on Facebook and on the internet. One shouts 'you should never do it, you see everything on it'. The other shouts 'it's beautiful, I wouldn't want it any other way'. And a third still reports that black blinds make the room much too dark and so on. Because of all those different opinions you don't really know which choice to make now.
And the purchase of black blinds in your living room and kitchen is not cat piss, of course. If you later regret it, then that is a very waste of the investment. We have therefore carefully considered all the opinions of third parties and finally decided to opt for wooden blinds in the color black. Below you can read why and I will tell you our experiences.
The decisive factor was the fact that I just think it looks very chic. In addition, we really like to close our windows in a simple way when it gets dark. We live outside and when it's dark here it's really dark. This also means that people passing by can easily look inside. Especially with the big windows. I don't mind that in itself, but when I'm lounging on the couch later in the evening, I don't need prying eyes.
The most exciting for me is the amount of light that blocks you when you choose black blinds. That is one of the drawbacks mentioned with regard to black wooden blinds in the home. But you can do something about that!
I really like a lot of light in the house. That's why I like to tear down walls in my house and make spaces open and bigger, haha. But black wooden blinds 'basically' give your living room a darker look. That is a rightly mentioned drawback. This is primarily because they are black, of course, but it is also the case that blinds in front of your window simply block the light across the entire width. That's where the jealousy is, anyway. But we found something on that. At Veneta.com they have extra wide blinds, which means that the distance from blind to blind is greater. With these blinds in a width of 63 mm, more light gets through.
That, together with the fact that we have quite a few windows (front, back and on the side of the living room) means that we finally dared to take the step. In addition, we have renovated our living room with a dark tiled floor and brown scrap ceiling. The result? A living room with white ceiling, white walls and a beautiful gray PVC floor. That also provides a lot of light in the house.
Do you not have that many windows in your house, but would you still like to have wooden blinds in your house? Then you can also choose white blinds, which you see more and more these days. The white blinds also block the light in the same way. But because they are white, they naturally reflect more light into the room than the black version.
Of course you see dust on black blinds, you simply have that faster with black than with any other color. But for me this is no reason not to choose black blinds.
There is a very good method for cleaning black blinds. We recently got the Swiffer Duster , especially for cleaning the blinds.
What a relief that is! You shake the duster out, place it on the handle and in no time you can dust all the blinds one by one. Just going over it slightly is enough to pick up the dust. You don't wipe the dust down, but it stays on the Duster. Is the cloth saturated? Just a refill and you're good to go.
Within 15 minutes I cleaned all our blinds, and that's quite a few. While we have a dog and three cats in the house that bring quite a bit of dirt and dust with them. So don't let this objection stop you if you - like me - are a fan of the look of black blinds. It is a small disadvantage that, due to this way of cleaning, no longer outweighs the use of the blinds and their looks.
If you have read the title of this blog carefully, you will see that we are opting for black blinds again. We had these in our old house too, but made of bamboo. Very beautiful in itself, but not nearly as practical in terms of cleaning as the wooden variant we have now. This is a lot smoother so that the dust does not 'snag'. I would therefore not readily recommend bamboo.
I hope I was able to convince you with this article. The disadvantages mentioned about black blinds are really overcome. I know better than anyone how the longing for these beautiful blinds can keep coming back. So if that's the only thing holding you back, I'd take the chance. In any case, good luck with your choice, and if you would like some color samples or advice? Then be sure to contact Veneta.com. Their advisor has been to our home and has been of great help to us.
