No sooner have we finished the current project than my mind is already jumping from one place to another with new ideas. This time for our hall and in particular the stairs in the hall. I would like to renovate our open staircase, but I'm not sure how yet. We can cover the open staircase with PVC, for example. But we can also close the open staircase to make a wardrobe underneath. Or we keep an open staircase, but I'm going to sand it and hope for a white oak staircase as a result. I don't know yet, but I'm looking into it. Not only for the ideas, but also from a budgetary point of view it is nice to know where we stand.

If I could choose -without looking at money- I think I would go for closing our open staircase. We now have such a dark stained classic oak staircase. The steps are beautiful in themselves, but the railing of the stairs is really a horror. So old-fashioned. And under the open staircase we now have an empty space where, in principle, our container cabinet is now located. But my preference is to close this part and then make a nice wardrobe under the cupboard.
A closed wardrobe that consists of different parts that you can pull out to hang your coats in. And then some drawers for scarves, gloves and our motorcycle helmets of course. I think it would be ideal if everything is out of sight. We can then nicely cover the stairs with PVC, for example. After all, we have now also fitted our living room, kitchen, utility room and hall with PVC. And that feels so great! We installed our PVC floor ourselves with a floor from Ambiant's vtwonen collection. It has been there for a few months now and we are really happy with the use of it.
We live afterwards and quite a bit of sand comes in under the shoes of the children, but also between the paws of the dog and the paws of our 3 cats. In other words… our floor gets quite dirty because people live here in the house. Yet you see very little on this PVC floor and I think that would also come in handy when covering the stairs. In addition, there is not a single scratch in the floor, while the chairs under the dining table slide back and forth quite a bit, so there are always grains of sand on the floor that chafe a bit. To date, we have complete confidence in the quality of this PVC floor.
On the other hand, this PVC is also very easy to clean. Just vacuum, mop over the stains and you're done. Ideal for the floor, but also a great solution for the stairs, I think. Now, as I said, we have a dark-stained staircase with that black half-moon carpet on it. brrr. Ugly. And also very contagious, because on black you see everything of course. Every dust or crumb stands out. That is why a staircase renovation has my full attention 😉 .
At Ambiant floors - where our PVC floor comes from - they also do staircase renovation. For example, we could even choose to have the same PVC floor of our hall laid on the stairs. Seems pretty cool to me. I deliberately say 'have it laid', because I don't feel like putting the PVC on the stairs myself. Laying the PVC floor went well for us, but a staircase with all corners and edges? No, that doesn't seem like much of a success to me.
By the way, did you know that they arranged such a staircase with PVC cladding within a day? In addition, I also saw on the website that the cost is not too bad. By means of a calculator you can estimate what it will cost you and you can immediately see what the stairs will look like with the choices you make. Similar to the room planner we used when choosing the new floor. This way we could get a good idea of what the floor in our house would look like.
Anyway.,.. I pinned a number of ideas about cool stairs that are covered with PVC. What do you think about it?
