Man, man, man, one more month and then we get the key to our new house. And my head is spinning. Not only because of everything that has to be arranged around the move, but much more about all the choices we are allowed to make. It ranges from the question of 'what color should be on the wall', to new doors and from a new floor to a possible extension and a roof at the rear. You can't think of it that crazy, I have already decorated the whole house 10 times in my head. Fantastic! But tiring 😉 .
I've always had it, I like to keep myself busy with the design of my house. But because everything is coming at once and we are not yet sure from a budgetary point of view whether we can make all the choices, we are actually not making a choice at all. I do, however, browse around a bit. Online, on Pinterest for example, but also offline. For example, I also get inspiration from free home brochures that I request. With that of Goossens you even get a gift voucher of € 20.00. You understand I can use it with all the upcoming plans in terms of furnishing.

But one of the things that I really can't figure out are the walls. And I've already resigned myself to having to wait with making the choices about house and furnishing until we're actually there, but it won't let me go. I will briefly indicate the 'plans' when it comes to colors and materials that I have in mind.
Until now I have always had all the walls in the house in the color white. With one small exception, in my 'eggplant' time when I didn't know what color to put on the wall, I still wanted something and it came out. But now I want to get rid of that white in some places. Not because I don't like white, I think it's beautiful. But to create a little more warmth in certain corners of the house.
The photo above is of the interior as it looks now. Not our interior. As you can see, there are quite a few windows so that it is quite light in the living room. The scrap ceiling is also removed, the ceiling just becomes white. The wall where the low gray cupboard now stands against, will be our new high cupboard (which is not yet completely finished and was actually intended for our old house). I think that wall will remain white, because there is already such a large - somewhat darker - cupboard against it. Check below. Furthermore, the frames are very dark anthracite or black.
That is why I think it would be nice to give the wall behind the stove a different color, preferably a darker shade. But what color am I going to put on the wall? And am I going to paint or should we choose wallpaper? Below you see a photo of the wall (the left wall, unfortunately I don't have a better view from the front).
The fireplace that surrounds the stove will be removed, so soon we will be left with a tight wall of about 4 meters wide (with a niche in it), the wall with the arrow below. The black stove is then separate.
The TV will also hang against that wall (that's no small thing, check my earlier article about the layout of the living room and the distance to the TV). So I would like to make this wall darker. Now I have some ideas about what color I would like on the wall and I'm curious what you guys like best. But first it is of course important what we are going to get on the floor.
I have read that when choosing a color for the wall it is important that you start from the choice of floor. I would like to implement my home and furnishing with natural tones and an 'open' character. If all goes well, the floor will be made of residential concrete. That is the starting point.
The first question that immediately comes to mind is of course… will it combine? Our new cabinet with a residential concrete floor (because the cabinet has the same kind of look)? And if not… how do we solve that? I'm not going to choose another floor because our closet may no longer be completely coloured? But this cabinet is also quite expensive… so we don't just get rid of it of course.
Okay, then the wall. I came across a number of options that I really really like. Wallpaper and paint, but which one it will be on the wall and the color? I'm not sure yet.
I think the wall above is beautiful, a dark variant of Marrakech walls. This wall is painted with special paint and technique and gives a nice warm look that I think fits perfectly with our interior. A nice industrial TV cabinet underneath and you're done!
But I also think the above wallpaper is very classy. It is a bit tighter in execution and I find that very special, don't I? I have not been able to find the wallpaper of the top photo. The wallpaper of the bottom photo is Elitis Anguille Big Croco. Quite pricey, but very nice. A hanging TV on this wall looks great in any case and it seems so nice with, for example, a retro wall lamp near the stove. We will not do white planks like in this photo, rather wood in a light oak color I think. I just wonder… can I use that kind of wallpaper behind the stove. The stove itself is of course not against the wall, but perhaps it is getting too hot. Do any of you have experience with that?
I also like a dark green color on the wall, for example, but I think that color is too different in combination with a residential concrete floor and the other furniture, don't you? If I just paint the other walls with beautiful Flexa colors or Histor colors in a light shade (white, or soft gray, or soft green, for example), then such a dark wall in the living room is possible, right?
Brief summary… based on different shades on the wall, a floor in a concrete look, the amount of light that comes in and the large cupboard that will be installed in the living room. What is your opinion on the questions below?
