I'm kind of a sucker for a nice warm blanket or plaid on the couch. Not only do I love them to lie under (who doesn't!), but I also always find them so very cozy. So…. in our house you will find quite a few plaids. I don't only have a blanket for the couch, but also by the beds and just on a wooden bench you will find a plaid because it looks nice. Do you recognize that?
Maarrrrr, all those plaids in the house have one drawback. They are also used by our pets. Ca$h (dog), Lynx, Sloth and Panda (our 3 cats) also love plaids. That means we have to share. And now a little sharing is not bad, but all that hair…. brrr. Besides the fact that our pets also like to lie on a lovely blanket, I also like it when they lie on a plaid in front of the couch. Especially with the dog that can lie on it all night. Please keep my couch a little tidy. Only then again I would rather not lie under the plaids where the dog is lying on. That means regularly changing a plaid on the couch for hygiene. That is why I have quite a few at home.

But what a difference there is in plaids. The nicest ones are also the least nicest in my opinion. I think such a beautiful woolen rug is very beautiful, but it also certainly has drawbacks. You don't just throw it in the washing machine, it is clearly less attractive because of the pets and hubby complains about 'itchy'.
As far as I'm concerned, it's always a matter of looking for a balance. I would like a plaid that looks nice on the couch, but it also has to be practically cleanable, so it shouldn't itch. I also really like it when a plaid is really nice and soft and warm.
I recently received 2 plaids from Unique living. One in a green shade and one in a yellow shade. The yellow blanket is intended for Lotte's bedroom (which turns green with yellow) and an Avocado green color for downstairs on the couch. The great thing about these plaids is that they have a bit of the look and feel of a wool plaid, but they are just made of fleece material. Very easy to maintain, they can simply be washed in the washing machine. The color change in the plaid gives it a wonderfully luxurious look. They are nice and warm, very spacious (150×200) and not that expensive!
You will find such a fleece plaid for example at Smulders Textiel.
The great thing about the above plaid is the extremely coarse stitch that has been used and the color I think. I really love this green olive color. It is not a cheap copy by the way, it costs about € 200.00. Not suitable for our house with growing children and many pets. But nice to look at and suitable for a country style at home , or industrial.
Woolen blankets for your couch or other places in your interior are always good. If you choose white tones or ecru, they can easily be combined with other materials and what color you have on the wall doesn't matter at all!
I also started knitting myself a plaid for the couch. But I stopped at 3/4 because I had a wrong pattern a few rows. Stupid of course, I just have to loosen those rules and then continue again, but I'm having a hard time with it. My knitting is still there, but the color is fantastic sea green. Very different from the beautiful color above and in an easier pattern 😉 . Yet it starts to proverbially itch again when I see the photo above. So beautiful!
Warm and pastel-colored natural tones are perfect for the upcoming autumn and winter season. Combine different colors for the sofa where the pattern of the plaid remains the same every time. That gives peace of mind.
Working with different patterns in different colors can be very nice, but also too much. Adapt the blanket for the sofa to your interior and make sure that the plaid becomes a striking item, or not! In the case of a very quiet interior, your plaid can be a bit wilder.
Although you first saw the waffle blankets mostly for baby cots, nowadays you see them more and more for a plaid on the couch. They are generally slightly less woolly blankets and usually made of 100% cotton. The above plaid by Heckett &Lane is an example of this.
