There are a number of rooms in our new house that are quite 'outdated', such as the bathroom that we want to redecorate. Downstairs in the annex we also have two rooms that look old. The toilet (with such an old high cistern) and the hall give a kind of 80s feeling. Secretly, however, we fell a little bit in love with the tiles in that room. And guess what? Mosaic is very hip again. That is why I looked for some nice mosaic examples to inspire you.

I used to mess around with DIY projects on a regular basis. In the distant past, for example, I myself sometimes provided a table with mosaic tiles. Very nice to do. It is not for nothing that it is tipped as a nice idea in our blog with ideas for a children's party:a mosaic children's party.
Mosaic tiles come in all kinds of variants. You have tiles that you lay in their entirety and that together give a beautiful mosaic pattern. But there are also mosaic tiles that are available on mats, you know them those very small square tiles. In addition, you can also make mosaic tiles yourself.
With mosaic tiles you can therefore do much more than just 'just' tile a wall or floor, hence this inspiration blog with mosaic examples. If you start working with the real mosaic yourself, a big advantage is that it is not all that close.
As indicated, you can simply buy mosaic tiles separately, but you can also make mosaics yourself, as you can see in the examples below.
You do the latter by cutting the tiles into mosaic yourself. Place the tiles in a tea towel and fold the tea towel closed. Hit that with a hammer and you make pieces of the tiles. Do you want to process the tiles afterwards? Then use work gloves! The pieces can be very sharp so protecting your hands is very important! The only difference with standard mosaic tiles is that you don't get squares, just random shapes. That is actually the 'real' mosaic.
Provide a surface on which you glue the mosaic or lay the mosaic directly in the concrete as is the case with some examples below.
Tip:draw the lines of the figure you want to lay with mosaic beforehand.
When the glue has dried and your mosaic is stuck, you can start grouting. By adding you get a nice whole and all sharp edges disappear.
Mix the grout.
Spread the grout diagonally over the mosaic with a grout trowel. Let it dry. Only when the tiles are really stuck do you go over them with a slightly wet sponge to remove the remaining grout from the tiles.
Clean the sponge regularly so that you don't get the tiles dirty again with the grout. Finally, you can go over it with a dry cloth to make sure it gets really clean.
Above they have worked with mosaic tile mats. Use a pair of pliers to separate all the squares. This way you can process them in your own shape, but you still have squares.
Tip:Use different colors of tile mats for the best result.
Pour a layer of concrete into a bucket. If you press the squares lightly into the concrete at the same time, you don't need glue, which makes a difference. Joining still has to be done.
How nice is this tray above. The surface is hard enough, but keep in mind that this tray is a bit heavier due to all the mosaic tiles. In the example above you use tile adhesive.
Tip:these trays are handy to use for this
I think it is one of the most beautiful examples of mosaic tiling, what an incredibly cool birdhouse this has become! Parts of cups have been used to give the birdhouse even more appearance and part of the mosaic tiles come from delft blue crockery as you see.
Here mats are used with very small mosaic tiles. You can find these kinds of examples of mosaics in different sizes of tiles. We have somewhat larger squares in the toilet ourselves, but these are also delivered on mats.
You can also opt for mosaic in the form of stones instead of tiles, the mosaic of the above example is also delivered on mats.
Beautiful mirror and lamps with mosaics that provide a complete oriental atmosphere. I love it!
This is the kind of mosaic floor that is not actually laid with mosaic, but which does look very mosaic. However, they are regular tiles laid in a mosaic pattern. Very beautiful indeed!
Admittedly, it goes a bit far and is a lot of work. But what a beautiful appearance these types of floors have. It looks a bit bathhouse-like, don't you think?
With these examples, also consider that you do not necessarily have to lay the mosaic in a certain shape. It doesn't have to represent anything in the end, but can also be very creative to just mix together.
Very creative is this pen tray that we also found via Pinterest. Examples like this make my hands itch to start doing something with mosaics again. Now to find the time!
A flower pot or vase that you brighten up with mosaics immediately gets a very special atmosphere. I get completely in the holiday mood with this kind of mosaic examples, don't you?
