Does your wool sweater need a good cleaning?
But are you afraid of damaging it?
It's true that wool is a fragile and delicate fiber!
An accident quickly happened and we end up with a shrunken sweater...
So, how to take care of it without risk?
Fortunately, there is a natural washing trick to clean a wool sweater and find it like new.
The best method is to wash it by hand rather than machine wash at low temperature . Watch:
- 1 basin
- 1 tablespoon of flake Marseille soap
- 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
1. Fill the basin with lukewarm water (maximum 30°).
2. Add the Marseille soap.
3. Immerse your sweater in this soapy bath for 20 min.
4. Gently rub the dirtiest parts between your fingers:bottom of sleeves, collar and armpits.
5. Turn the sweater gently several times with your hands.
6. Empty the sink and fill it with cold water.
7. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar.
8. Leave to soak for 5 min.
9. Remove as much water as possible without twisting the sweater so as not to damage it.
10. Lay it flat on the bottom of the tub or shower.
11. Press gently with your hands to squeeze out as much water as possible.
12. Roll it up in a dry towel to absorb any remaining water.
13. Place your wool sweater flat on a dry towel.
14. Let it air dry and turn it over when one side is dry.
And There you go ! You washed your wool sweater without shrinking it :-)
Easy, fast and efficient, right?
It is now immaculate and ready to wear again.
With this trick, it will last a very long time without getting damaged.
It is also perfect for woolen scarves and hats.
Marseille soap respects the delicate fibers well and does not damage them.
White vinegar softens the fibers and neutralizes any soap residue.
For the rinsing bath, the water should not be very cold to avoid thermal shock.
Obviously this technique works for all types of wool:alpaca, angora, lamb, mohair and sheep.
And for all brands including Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Zara or Promod.
It is true that it is more practical than washing by hand.
But before throwing the sweater in the washing machine, check that it has a "wool" or "delicates" programme.
What does it mean ? Quite simply that the temperature does not exceed 30° and that the spin speed does not exceed 400 or 500 rpm.
This is important because another hotter program can damage the wool.
Put on a "special wool" detergent.
Once the sweater has been washed, take it out and lay it flat in the open air.
