Cleaning the oven windows is really a thankless task!
Especially when they are very dirty because we never took the time to clean them...
And if you have already started the self-cleaning mode of the oven...
...you have surely noticed that it only works for walls.
The oven glass remains dirty, clogged and covered with splatters of grease and burnt food. Yuck!
But don't worry, because many people have trouble keeping the oven glass clean.
The good news is that there are infallible tricks to remove traces of burnt grease from the oven glass.
Whether inside, outside or even between the windows, here is the easy way to clean them WITHOUT EFFORT . Watch:
Let's start with the easiest part to clean:the outside of the oven glass.
Next, I'll show you how to tackle the other parts of the door, the ones that have much more stubborn burnt grease marks.
- lemon juice, distilled white vinegar or other 100% natural glass cleaner
- spray bottle
- microfiber cloths
1. Spray the cleaner on the outside of the oven glass.
2. With a cloth, wipe the glass from top to bottom to remove all dirt.
3. If necessary, spray and wipe a second time.
4. To leave no streaks, wipe the glass one last time with a clean, dry cloth.
Cleaning the inside of the oven glass is more complicated. But after all, it's normal.
Indeed, here, it is a question of getting rid of the projections of grease and food which have literally burned on the glass.
And this, for weeks, months... even years!
- 125 g baking soda (about half a glass)
- water
- 1 medium bowl
- microfiber cloths
- optional: 1 razor blade or 1 window scraper
1. Open the oven door and use a damp cloth to rub the glass and remove most of the burnt grease.
2. Pour the baking soda into the bowl.
3. Slowly add and mix the water with the baking soda to form a paste.
4. Spread the dough on the inside of the oven glass.
5. Leave on for 15 to 20 min.
6. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe off the paste.
7. Use the razor blade to gently scrape off stubborn traces of burnt grease.
Here, take good care to use the dish of the blade to scrape the glass. This is because the corner of the blade may scratch the glass.
8. If necessary, repeat steps 1-7.
9. To leave no streaks, wipe the glass one last time with a clean, dry cloth.
Your oven glass is now sparkling clean, inside and out. But...
How do you get rid of those nasty traces of dirt that have accumulated BETWEEN the oven windows?
Don't worry...roll up your sleeves and get out the toolbox, because there is a solution for cleaning between the panes.
- the instruction manual for your oven (if you threw it away, you can easily find it online).
- 1 screwdriver
- 1 old sheet on which you can put the door without damaging it
- 125 g baking soda (about half a glass)
- water
- 1 medium bowl
- microfiber cloths
- optional: 1 razor blade or 1 window scraper
- a friend to help you remove and reinstall the door
1. Open your oven door and see what kind of screws are used to hold it in place.
Why ? Most ovens use Torx head screws (also called star screws).
And if that's the case, you'll need to use a screwdriver with a suitable bit, like this one.
2. Spread the old sheet over the surface where you plan to work.
3. Consult the oven instruction manual, where you will find specific instructions on how to remove and reinstall the oven door.
4. Ask your friend to help you remove the door. It's much heavier than you think, so it's better to do it with two people!
5. Place the door on the old sheet, interior side up .
6. Remove the screws from the door. Depending on the model, there are usually 2 screws above the glass and 2 screws on the lower part of the door.
7. Disassemble the 2 sides of the door and place them next to each other, always with the interior part of the windows up .
8. Clean the inside of the windows following the steps previously mentioned in "INSIDE THE GLASS ".
9. With the help of your friend, refit the glass on the door and reinstall the door on the oven.
