For a recipe of 28 to 56 dishwasher tablets:

- 180 g baking soda

- 180 g citric acid powder

- 90 g of unrefined and untreated coarse salt (you can also use magnesium sulphate, the famous "Epsom salt")

- 12 cl of white vinegar

- 15 to 20 drops of lemon essential oil

- 2 ice cube trays, like these silicone ice cube trays

These doses are sufficient to fill 2 ice cube trays (it depends on their dimensions). By cutting each piece in half, you get between 28 and 56 dishwasher tablets .

How to

1. Combine all the dry ingredients in a large container such as a salad bowl.

2. Add the white vinegar little by little and mix thoroughly.

3. Stop adding white vinegar once the mixture starts to clump together.

4. Add and mix the lemon essential oil.

Note: tamp each compartment of the tray carefully, until the pellets are well compacted.

If you manage to pack each compartment well, your mixture should fill about 2 ice cube trays.

6. And now for the easy part:wait ! To dry your pellets, choose a dry and sunny place, for at least 24 hours.

7. Once the pellets are completely dry and solidified , you can unmold them.

Store your homemade dishwasher tablets in an airtight container like these glass jars that won't let moisture in.

There you go, it's an excellent alternative to commercial dishwasher tablets. Now you know what to replace the product for the dishwasher. Convenient, isn't it?

How to use your homemade pastilles?

For each wash, add 1 tablet to the detergent drawer of your dishwasher.

For even more cleaning power, you can add 3 drops of washing up liquid. But be careful, no more than 3 drops , otherwise you will have foam everywhere!

And if your homemade pastilles are too big because of the dimensions of your ice cube trays, they can easily be cut in half!

Finally, do not forget to add a little white vinegar (10 to 20 cl) in the tray of your dishwasher before starting a cycle. If your water is hard, this is an essential step to avoid water marks on your glasses!

Why does it work?

• Baking soda has powerful degreasing properties. It's also one of the best all-purpose cleaners!

• Citric acid is a natural alternative to phosphates that softens water. It is particularly effective in erasing traces of limescale and has powerful antimicrobial properties.

• Unrefined and untreated coarse salt reduces the effects of excessively hard water. It also works with Epsom salt, if you used it.

• White vinegar is a powerful 100% natural cleanser that also acts as a binder for the other ingredients in this recipe.

• Lemon essential oil increases the cleaning effectiveness of the lozenges and has powerful antibacterial properties. Plus, it smells great!
