In a hurry to go on vacation, we often leave the house too quickly.
And we forget to take the time to do the essential things before leaving. You know...the ones that will save us money!
Fortunately, we have selected for you the most important things to do before going on vacation.
Don't worry, these are simple gestures to make!
These 4 gestures will sweeten our bill, so don't neglect them! Watch:

Our electrical appliances continue to consume after our departure, unnecessarily moreover.
- Lower or stop the refrigerator
Lower the refrigerator temperature , after having emptied it of almost all its contents. If you leave for more than 10 days, turn it off completely and defrost the freezer block of your refrigerator. Leave the door ajar to avoid bad smells.
- Defrost the freezer
It's the right time to get started! Regularly defrosting your freezer saves around €30 a year.
- Household electrical appliances
Make sure that all your devices (television, computer, Internet box, microwave, etc.) are off and not on standby. Over a year, the consumption of appliances on standby costs you around €50.
If you don't want to unplug them one by one when you leave, plug them into a power strip with a switch all year round. It's even easier!
These gestures also allow you to ward off the risk of fire. Be careful, however, to know how to restart these devices when you return.
- Turn off the water heater
Turn off the power supply to the water heater or the boiler if you are going for more than a week. According to our calculations, the amount saved will amount to about fifteen euros over 3 weeks.
- Turn off the lights
When leaving, check that no lights are left on and that the automatic lights (which come on when passing) are no longer activated.
A piece of advice :instead of programming an automatic light to make potential burglars believe that you are at home, ask your neighbors to open and close your shutters. This method is effective and free.
- Cut off the water supply
By turning off the water in the house before you leave, you reduce the risk of water damage.
- Disconnect the water collector
Disconnect the pump to collect rainwater to avoid overflows.
To keep your plants beautiful, ask a neighbor to come and water them using the rainwater collector.
If you don't have one, don't turn off the water in the house, just turn off the water supply toilets, washing machine and dishwasher. It will be more convenient for your neighbor to have water available.
I remember one year when I had to water the plants of one of my neighbors. He had turned off the water and I had to bring the watering cans home. It was moderately practical!
- Lower the thermostat
The question does not arise in summer, but remember to lower the thermostat in winter, in frost-free position . Do not cut it completely to protect the house from moisture.
- Close the shutters
Closing all the shutters will make the house less accessible to burglars and further isolate it from the outside temperature.
To keep the plants seeing the light, I put them in my bathroom. When everything is locked, we leave with peace of mind and that is priceless!
