March is the month of spring.
In other words, there are plenty of things to do in the garden.
So much so that you don't necessarily know where to start.
And then, we wonder what to plant in the vegetable garden in March?
I help you get organized and select the best fruits and vegetables to put in the ground in March.
It was my market gardening grandfather who gave me this advice.
Here are 15 plants to plant or sow in March that grow easily . Watch:

Early spring is the best time to sow carrots.
In the ground for the hottest regions or under cover for regions where it still freezes at night .
Make a small furrow about 2 cm deep and sow the small carrot seeds before covering them with soil.
To space them out, I recommend this easy method.
Feel free to choose different varieties of carrots, including purple, yellow, or white carrots.
It puts a little color on the plate!
March is a good time to transplant strawberries.
Either you buy them in a garden center or you divide an existing foot.
Choose a very sunny location and leave about 30cm between each foot .
Vary the species to enjoy different varieties of strawberries.
Think in particular of planting a few late-producing plants, such as the 4-season strawberry plant. Why?
Because you will have strawberries until the end of September/beginning of October...not bad, right?
Depending on the region where you live, you can plant the lettuces in the ground or under cover in case of night frost.
If you are in a hurry to harvest them, buy young plants from a garden center and transplant them into the ground .
Alternatively, sow the seeds for harvest 6-8 weeks later.
Want some advice?
Do both methods to always have salads ready to harvest!
Whatever region you live in, the end of March is the ideal time to plant potatoes!
Dig a hole about 15cm deep every 40cm.
Put a small potato in each of the holes and cover with soil before watering.
Choose different varieties in order to have potatoes with firm or tender flesh .
It's interesting to have both depending on what you're cooking.
In a small furrow about 3cm deep, put the bulbs of garlic and shallot in the ground.
Space them about 25 cm apart to encourage their development.
Then, cover with soil and water.
No vegetable garden without aromatic herbs.
So put the parsley, chervil, basil, sage, mint in the ground or in a pot.
However, be careful!
These plants do not support white frosts.
If this is the case with you in March, I advise you to put them under shelter or in a protected place.
Radishes are the kind of semi-essential to put in the vegetable garden.
My children love to plant them...and especially harvest them 3 weeks later .
Dig a small furrow about 1 cm deep and spread the radish seeds, spacing them as far apart as possible.
Cover with soil and water.
Remember to lighten the row if necessary.
What is lightening?
It is the act of selecting and removing shoots that are too tight so that others can grow.
Eggplant sowing can start in mid-March under cover.
The temperature should not drop below 20°:eggplant is a delicate plant.
When the first leaves appear, transplant each plant in a protected pot or in the ground, frost-free.
Space each shrub at least 60cm apart to allow room for development and fruiting.
Eggplant needs a lot of sun and water in summer:plan ahead!
For leeks, 2 solutions:
Either we sow them, or we transplant young plants.
To sow them, you will need sandy, sunny soil.
Dig a furrow of about 1 cm, distribute the seeds as best as possible, cover with soil and water.
Leeks planted in the spring are harvested in the fall.
But be careful, seedlings don't like the cold.
If it's still freezing at home, prefer leek plants for transplanting.
As they are already big, they will fear the cold less.
Asparagus also likes sandy soil .
Sow the seeds in furrows of about 1 cm spaced 30 cm each.
But be patient, because it's not the first year you'll be eating asparagus.
It will be necessary, next spring, to transplant the young claws of asparagus in their place of permanent growth:
A sandy and sunny asparagus grove.
And it's only the third year that you'll eat your first asparagus...but considering the price:it's worth it!
From March, peas can be sown in the ground.
Just put each seed in the ground 3 cm underground and water .
Don't forget to install stakes so that the peas can hang on and thrive.
If it still freezes at night, wait until the end of the night frosts to put them in the ground.
Or, do the semi under cover.
This is also valid for beans.
As with peas, beans are sown in the ground from the end of March, provided that it is no longer freezing.
If so, sow under cover.
Space the rows about 50 cm apart and put your stakes in immediately so that the beans can climb.
The first harvest will take place at the beginning of summer.
Do not hesitate to diversify the varieties:green, yellow, purple beans...
Peppers can be transplanted from March provided the ground is warm.
Turn the soil so that it is very flexible and transplant each plant about 60cm from each other.
If necessary, put the young peppers in a greenhouse until the Saints de Glace.
Remember that peppers need a lot of water.
Plant them in a not too dry place in the middle of summer.
I said "sow"!
It's still too cold in March to plant tomatoes in the garden...
...unless you live in a Mediterranean climate.
Sow the seeds in small pots.
Once the foot is 20/25 cm high, you can transplant it in the ground.
Take hardy varieties like Grégori Altaï or Marmande.
No summer without colorful flowers.
But they crash right now!
Cosmos, marigold, petunia, nasturtium, passion flower, poppy, knapweed, bluebells, immortelle, cornflower, borage....
Again, the rule is the same.
We put them directly in the ground if the temperature allows it, otherwise, we start sowing in a pot in the greenhouse.
The gardener's mission does not stop at the plantations. It must also:
- prune the roses
- prune the vine and tie it
- tie the branches of fruit trees
- remove the wintering sails
- aerate the mulches, especially around irises or peonies
- trim the hedges
- cut raspberry suckers
In a word:there's plenty to do!
