It is essential to ask questions about the price of the interventions of a professional painter for the renovation of his house. Is it interesting to pay by the hour or by the square meter? And what are the factors that influence prices? A brief overview.
The price of painting depends on a very large number of factors starting with the type of support which can be the ceiling or the wall. Working the ceiling being more technical and difficult, logically this affects prices. Thus, it will take between 30 and 40 euros per m². The price of work on the walls is cheaper and varies between 20 and 30 euros per m².
The state of the support constitutes another parameter which has its impact on the intervention prices. Walls that have suffered water damage or victims of excess humidity will necessarily require longer work which will lead to an increase in the final bill. The same is true for the removal of existing coatings. The craftsman will have to provide additional work to remove wallpaper or replace tiles.
Another factor is the area to be painted. It is clear that the larger the area, the higher the cost of the work. Nevertheless, given the scale of the project, do not hesitate to negotiate to take advantage of a decreasing rate. Another thing:the preparation of the site must be taken into account in the financial calculation. The price difference can be significant depending on whether it is a new construction or a renovation. Because if it is a question of a new house, without furniture, the painter only has to protect the ground. On the other hand, if the house is already inhabited, it must protect all the existing furniture.
In the midst of all these parameters, the nature of the work also influences prices. Exterior painting will be much more expensive than interior painting. Finally, there is the geographical location. It goes without saying that in Paris, paint companies have much higher price lists than in the provinces.
Two pricing methods can be applied by the painting company. The first is an hourly rate. The contractor will calculate the duration of the construction site before proposing a price of work per hour. The latter will depend on 5 parameters:the preparation of the site, the condition of the support, the removal of a coating, the surface worked as well as the difficulty of the operation. In new houses, the price fluctuates between 25 and 55 euros/hour, while it is 22 to 50 euros/hour in houses to be renovated.
The second tariff mode is fixed per m². The latter is more interesting than the hourly rate, because it makes it possible to obtain a precise estimate perfectly in line with the total surface to be painted. On average, it is necessary to count 30 euros HT per m². A cost that includes the supply, preparation and application of the paint. Eventually, the difficulty of the operations may lead to a slight increase.
