When we think of vacuuming, we think of cleaning the floors quickly and easily. In practice, however, most people do this completely wrong. The consequence? More dust in the house than before vacuuming. Vacuuming:you make these mistakes too.
How often you vacuum varies from household to household. If you are alone or as a couple, have no pets and work full time, vacuuming once a week may be enough. However, if you have children and/or pets, you will have to vacuum daily or every other day.
The answer to that seems obvious:to remove all dirt from the floor. However, there is much more to it. Because with vacuuming you can also remove substances that cause allergies or asthma. Vacuuming is also a good way to get more exercise. Because it is also a very simple job, it is the way to clear your head. Ideal if you work at home and want to blow off steam or just feel the need to do something else.
Unfortunately, many people think they are doing it right, but are disappointed. I'm sure you are also guilty of one of the following mistakes when vacuuming.
You pick up the vacuum cleaner and immediately start vacuuming. That's the biggest mistake. If you only tackle the floor, there is a good chance that you will distribute the substance and not remove it. Before you start vacuuming, you should dust everything that is higher than the floor. The dust particles fall on the floor which you can then vacuum up.
After you've dusted, it's time to remove everything that's on the floor. Of course you can vacuum around everything, but that only moves the dust. So put the chairs upside down on the edge of the table, plants on the table and your rug outside. First knock out the carpet vigorously and only then vacuum.
A common mistake:you pull on the vacuum cleaner cable to get the maximum cable length at your disposal. Just stop pulling if it doesn't go any further. During vacuuming, work is also carried out in such a way that the cable is often taut. That is not good. Simply switch sockets in between to save the cable. Don't feel like fiddling with cables? Then a cordless stick vacuum is the solution.
Most people make this mistake:they extend the vacuum cleaner in front of them instead of pulling it towards them. How should it be done? Place the vacuum cleaner rod well in front of you and then gently pull it towards you. That way you suck up all the dirt and no dust and dirt is left behind. This is especially important when vacuuming carpets.
You can use the vacuum cleaner for different surfaces and is even suitable for cleaning (fabric) sofas. In principle, every vacuum cleaner comes with different attachments. Use the right attachment for the right application.
Grab the vacuum cleaner and just start somewhere… No, that's completely wrong of course. It is best to start in one corner of the room and then work your way up to the other corner. You do this by pulling the vacuum cleaner towards you and not sliding it out in front of you (the vacuum cleaner rod). Do not forget to vacuum under cabinets (if possible) and also take the skirting boards with you, because dust often gets stuck there.
Do you still have a vacuum cleaner bag? Then check it regularly. Do you have a model without a bag? Then regularly empty the container in which all the dust is collected. If you're already at it, don't forget to check the filter. Here my Thomas vacuum cleaner had barely vacuumed for months. Everything was checked and cleaned. I was about to buy another vacuum cleaner. We suddenly found out that there was a filter that we have always overlooked. After cleaning this filter, the vacuum cleaner worked like new again.
Please note:before changing or cleaning the vacuum cleaner bag and filter, you must pull the plug from the socket!
Do you have problems with your back after vacuuming? Then there is a good chance that your vacuum cleaner is not set correctly. It is often adjustable in height, so that you can do your work without pain. Most vacuum cleaner rods can be adjusted in height. It is important that you remain upright while vacuuming. If you have to bend over, the height is not right. You can try this out beforehand.
Not everyone likes household chores like vacuuming. This can also be seen in some houses. If you work too fast, the vacuum cleaner will leave black marks on baseboards and walls. Even if you hate this household chore, take your time. Black stripes on walls and skirting boards cause the following problem:you have to get started with paint.
When you buy a vacuum cleaner, make sure that the model matches your wishes and needs. Where one person prefers a compact and light model, another thinks a heavy model is better. Some find a bagless stick vacuum to be ideal, while others prefer a bagged vacuum. If you have the opportunity, try out different models (with family, friends, etc). That way you can find out which model suits you.
Do you think vacuuming is really a chore? Or are you short on time? Then you could consider purchasing a robot vacuum cleaner.
Which of the above mistakes do you make while vacuuming ?
