Gnats quickly invade a home. Especially in summer.
They are often placed on plants, but not only.
They can be found everywhere, including in the kitchen (often near the trash can), which is not very appetizing.
Whether we have kids and pets or not, we don't like using chemicals to get rid of them.
So here are 5 natural tips to finally get rid of gnats.
The principle is a bit like that of wasp traps with syrup. But the ingredient here is apple cider vinegar.
- Fill a container that closes (like a plastic box) with cider vinegar.
- Drill several small holes in the cover.
- Place your trap where you have midges.
The gnats will enter the box and become trapped there.
This trick works with flies, so it also works with gnats.
It consists of planting cloves in half a lemon.

More surprisingly, this trick is very effective. And it couldn't be more natural and odorless!
Simply place corks in the fruit basket. Not only does this trick repel gnats, but it also prevents your fruit from rotting too quickly.
Gnats like to get on your plants. It is therefore important to treat this particular place with a harmless product for them.
I named black soap.
- Dilute 1 tablespoon of liquid black soap in 1 liter of warm water.
- Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
- Put this mixture in a clean spray bottle.
- Shake before use.
- Spray directly on the leaves of your plants.
You can do this regularly until the gnats and gnats are gone, and once in a while for prevention, even if you don't have them anymore.
If there's one thing midges don't like, but don't like at all, it's sulfur.
Where is sulfur found? Well, at the end of the matches.
Plant several matchsticks in the soil of your plants. The sulfur will destroy the eggs deposited by the midges and thus avoid having new ones.
Of course, put the sulfur matches down. Change them when they run out of sulphur.
In order to avoid the invasion of midges, here are some precautions to take:
- remove any standing water in the house,
- do not leave food residue lying around,
- close garbage cans properly,
- do not overwater the plants,
- clean the siphons regularly (for this, coffee grounds are perfect),
- buy a carnivorous plant if necessary.
