It is important to take care of the wool so that it remains soft and supple.
A friend who works at Bompard gave me his tip for washing cashmere clothes.
It's so easy and natural that I definitely adopted this technique.
Here's how to clean and care for it to keep it looking like new for years . Watch:
- special wool detergent
- laundry net
- cold water
- washing machine
- bath towel
1. Put your sweater in the laundry net.
Tip: if you don't have one, a pillowcase will do.
2. Put the laundry net with the sweater in it in the machine.
3. Add a few drops of wool detergent to the machine.
4. Choose a cold wash wool or 20°C wool programme.
5. Select a gentle spin at a maximum of 500 rpm.
6. When you're done washing, lay your towel out on the bed or a table.
7. Lay your still wet sweater on the towel.
8. Flip your sweater to the other side after a few hours.
9. Once dry, store your sweater lying flat, out of the sun, in a dry and ventilated place.
And There you go ! You now know how to wash your cashmere sweater without damaging it :-)

Obviously, this trick also works for cashmere or alpaca scarves, cardigans, hats or stoles.
And if you don't have a specific detergent, put a few drops of mild shampoo.
This is a trick to avoid buying expensive special detergent.
Mild shampoo has the same effect.
You never know how to properly wash cashmere.
I've always heard that you have to wash it by hand and in cold water.
But wringing and drying is a problem, because you have to twist the sweater...which damages the fibers.
Major sweater brands, such as Bompard, now recommend machine washing .
Indeed, the machines now have so-called "pendulum" programs for wool and delicate laundry.
The water is cold and the spin is very light.
Here are 10 practical tips to make your sweater last a long time whether it comes from Uniqlo or Monoprix:
- Always wash it in cold water or maximum 20° because hot water deteriorates the fibers and can cause them to shrink.
- Always use a net when washing in the washing machine because this prevents the wool from clinging to the drum.
- Never use fabric softener because this product may make it felt and alter its softness.
- Never pressing or dry cleaning because cashmere loves water.
- Wear your sweater for two or three days in a row, no more then, let the wool rest in the open air to remove odors easily.
- Do not hesitate to wash your cashmere knits regularly, because this type of fabric is not afraid of water, on the contrary.
- Never dry your sweater on a drying rack and even less with pins because it deforms the stitches.
- Iron inside out with a barely hot iron . A steam generator is also suitable for smoothing wool.
- Remove pilling with a special comb . Better, don't take them off at all, they will fall out on their own after a few washes.
- Put a natural moth repellent in your closet . Yes, moths love cashmere. Don't let them mess up your favorite sweater!
