Tired of your car seat backs being dirty?
It's true that children often tend to get them dirty...
...and leave beautiful footprints on it!
But no need to buy special protection for that.
To keep your car seats always clean, make yourself a homemade protective cover.
It's much more economical... and prettier! In addition, you can easily clean it in the washing machine.
And believe me, it is perfect for holidays and rainy days! Watch:
Once the car seats are installed in the direction of travel, children's feet rub on the back of the seats.
For 2 years, we adopted this solution:
Yeah... Not terrible! Especially since it wasn't always effective because my son would sometimes put his feet under the towel and cause it to fall.
But since I created my protective cover, no more footprints!
This cover is washable, protects the seats much better than the towel did and it's still much less ugly!
I now show you how I did it. But keep in mind that depending on the car models, the seats have different sizes. Remember to take the measurements of your seats before you start.
- 2 pieces of identical fabric of 50 cm each
- 1 meter of cotton padding fabric
- rubber bands
1. Measure the back of your seat and cut a piece of fabric to size. Mine is 60cm high (including seams) and 46cm at its widest point. To make the rounded corners, I used a plate.
2. Cut the second piece of fabric and the two layers of cotton padding in the same way.
3. I also cut two pieces of elastic. The first will go around the headrest posts, and the other will go around the car seat. Please note the length of the elastic depends on the model of your car. I also cut out a pocket. It is the width of the seat protector and about 20 cm high.
4. On the pocket, make a hem of about one cm. Secure it with pins and sew it to the top and bottom of the pocket.
5. Place the pocket where you want it on the front of the fabric. Secure it with pins. Sew the bottom of the pocket and make two vertical lines to divide the pocket. The red lines in the photo below show you where to sew.
6. Then, put the pieces of fabric on top of each other in this order:first the 2 layers for the padding, then the fabric to make the back of the protection (good side on top), then the rubber bands placed in the right place and finally the fabric to make the front of the protection so that the patterns are upside down.
After taking this picture, I added over the fabric to make the front of the protector, being careful that the patterns are upside down. I then put pins all around to hold all the fabric pieces together. Also remember to put the rubber bands in the right place.
7. Sew all around your seat protector, leaving a margin of about 1 cm. Don't forget to leave an opening at the bottom of 15 to 20 cm to be able to return your protection. Before turning it over, cut the excess fabric that protrudes in the corners and curves to avoid making it too thick. Be careful not to cut your seams.
8. Turn the cover over to put it right side up. Smooth it well then sew all around the edge of the protection, making sure that everything is closed, including the bottom of the protection.
9. Thread the rubber bands around your car seat and pull it down until it sits flat against the seat back.
And there you have it, you have made a protection for the back of the car seat.
No more footprints on car seat backs!
Easy and convenient, right?
The advantage is that you can clean it whenever necessary!
No more hassle kids to pay attention to their feet.
