So you've purchased a Logitech Harmony Elite. Now is the time to put it to the test and move beyond just using it to power your TV or audio device. Here are some of our favorite ways to use the universal remote in your home.

The Nest Learning Thermostat was one of the first smart devices to hit the market. With Nest, you can control the temperature in your home from your smartphone or online. When connected to Logitech Harmony, changing the temperature in your home is now as easy as a tap on your remote or in the Harmony app. You can also use Harmony to detect and change Nest Away's mood.
To add Nest to Harmony, find Devices on the home screen of the Harmony app. From there, click. Editing devices at the bottom of the screen. Then click on + Devices , Home control , and then Nest . Finally, sign in to your Nest account . Once complete, “Thermostats” are added to the list of devices on your Logitech Harmony.
It is convenient to be able to control the temperature in your home with a remote control. What's even better is setting default Nest thermostat temperatures for each of your Harmony activities. For example, automatically heat your house when you start watching TV or turn off your A/C when you listen to music.
In this example, we'll add Nest to your Watch TV activity. To do this, click on Occupations from the main screen of your Harmony app. Next, click on Edit Activities and then Watch TV .
From this screen, we want to adjust the temperature In our room at 68 degrees every time we watch TV. On the contrary, we want to lower the temperature to 55 degrees when TV time is over.
Hit Edit Boot Sequence and then Edit startup controls . Next, select your Nest device to use with your activity. From there, change the temperature to the correct setting and press the x icon key. at the top right of the screen. Select the > icon to return to the Activity Summary screen. Repeat these steps to Edit ending sequence .

Philips Hue, the wireless lighting system, like Nest, helped define the growing smart home industry. With your Harmony Elite, you can both control the lights that are part of your Philips Hue system, as well as add them to your list of home activities.
To add your Philips Hue to Harmony, find Devices from the Harmony app. From there, click. Editing devices at the bottom of the screen. Then click on + Devices , Home control, and then Hue . Sign in to your Philips Hue account , and then follow the final instructions .
Now you can adjust your lighting with the Harmony Elite remote and the Harmony app, including changing colors and scenes. You can also organize your light bulbs into groups like Living Room and Kitchen. To do this, find Devices On the main screen of your smartphone app, scroll to the bottom and select Editing Devices , then +Group . Once set, you can tap the group light bulb icon to turn everything on/off and swipe left/right to control brightness. You can also expand the group to control the bulbs individually.
You can also assign home control buttons to work with the Elite remote. From the Harmony app, go to Settings under Remote control and hub . From there, select Harmony Elite> Home Button Controls . There are two light buttons on your Harmony Elite remote. Select Button 1 and Button-2 assign bulbs.
Note :A short press of a light button turns on the bulbs while a long press turns them off. The two rocker switches next to the buttons control the brightness of the light.
Anyone with the Philips Hue system knows that one of its best features is the ability to change the color of the bulbs to suit your mood or setup. With Harmony Elite, you can have colors change every time you activate Activities. For example, you might want the lights in your bedroom to turn blue every time you listen to Sonos. Or, turn off the lights in your living room every time you watch your favorite sports team on ESPN.
There are countless combinations to try between Logitech Harmony and Philips Hue. The only limitation is your imagination.

With the free Internet service IFTTT (If This Then That), everyday users can create chains of statements, called "recipes," that are triggered based on changes in other web services.
Built into IFTTT are a few Harmony recipes worth considering. For example, using IFTTT, you can set a date and time to start a harmony activity, or perhaps alert your Sonos player to turn on whenever your favorite sports team plays.
One of the reasons IFTTT is so popular is its simplicity. To develop new recipes, all you need to do is create an If/Then statement via the IFTTT website or app. Once you try the formula, you're ready to go.
The ideal way to add or create an IFTTT recipe is by using the IF app. Most likely, the recipe you are looking for has already been added. To find a recipe for Harmony, go to the IF app and select the recipe icon at the top right of the screen. Then, next to My Recipes, select the + button. On the suggested services screen, select the harmony icon.
Below is a list of popular recipes to use with Harmony. Select the one you want to use from this list. For example, select The power of my home theater when I leave the house. . From this screen, you'll be prompted to choose the Activity you want to turn off when you (and your smartphone) leave the house. Once done, select Add from the screen. Once you do, the recipe is attached to your account and voila.
