Studying a landscape requires a professional of the profession, but who should we call on? To the landscape architect or the landscape gardener? Although these trades are both related to the landscape, they differ in a few points. The landscape architect studies the plans of the landscapes while the landscape gardener intervenes directly on the ground. Thus, the profession of architect requires many years of study to have this title, unlike the profession of gardener which is similar to that of a technician. In other words, the intellectual path is not the same.
The landscape architect for the study of the landscape
The landscape architect is not very widespread or even not recognized legally since this profession is quite difficult to define. The order of architects also protects the term "architect", so it is more recognized as a landscaper. Indeed, it is an interdisciplinary profession and the qualities required are complex. Nevertheless, landscape architects are managing to make a place for themselves in society, as people are increasingly calling on their services. Generally, the landscape architect intervenes between the environment and architecture, disciplines that he should master a priori. His job is to develop and plan a rural or urban landscape. In addition, it is more in demand for urban planning works.
Facing his client, he should not limit himself to poetry and aesthetics. To carry out his work, the landscape architect must have broad knowledge of the landscape project, culture, plant biology, life science, social sciences, legal standards, management techniques as well as communication.
A landscape architect designs the exact plan for the project. For this, he studies the earthworks, the architecture of the environment so that the project blends into its environment, the materials and the type of plants that will fit with the terrain (sunshine, type of soil, irrigation)...
The job of landscape gardener is to be perfected in the field. It is a "hands-on" job that requires great physical resistance in its development, like any other site work. This work requires manual skill, a sense of observation and initiative as well as a certain artistic sense. A landscape gardener takes care of the preparation of the soil, the installation of lawns, flowers, trees and shrubs and ensures its maintenance throughout the year. Besides that, he must also master other activities such as pruning, the construction of irrigation networks, the construction of earthworks, low walls, paving, etc. Thus, the landscape gardener works more on the ground compared to the landscape architect.
Even after his training, the landscape architect continues to learn the trade with each intervention. This field is in full expansion, because landscapers (gardeners or architects) are solicited by both companies and individuals. If some call on them to create leisure parks, communal gardens, others want to develop their gardens and even more.
