The rumor mill about the new Playstation 5 is running at full speed. It is now expected that the Playstation 5 release in 2018 will be a fact. Judging by all the rumors and various analyses, the Playstation 5 will be a fact at the end of the year, just in time for Christmas.
Sony released the first game console in 1995, more known as Playstation 1 or PSX. Sony released the game console as a competition to the already existing Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn. The release was an immediate success:in Japan alone, no fewer than 2 million game consoles were sold in the first 6 months. Sales in the US and Europe were no less and with an average sales price of $299 (at that time the guilder was still in use in the Netherlands, so that the Playstation cost 799 guilders) Sony managed to make a lot of profit with the sale of both the hardware and the software.
From 1995 it actually went very fast. Other game developers such as Nintendo couldn't stay behind and the developments took place at a very fast pace. Of course Sony did not lag behind and in 2000 the successor to the original Playstation was launched on the market. A thinner version with the name Playstation 1. This to avoid confusion with the Playstation 2 released earlier that year. Incidentally, the Playstation 2 was the best-selling game console of all time with over 155 million copies sold.
Developments in the game field are going fast and within 6 years the third game computer came on the market under the name Playstation 3. This was part of the seventh generation of game computers and was mainly intended as a competitor for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii.
The Playstation 4 then took a while again and came out in 2013. In addition to subtle changes that made it slightly better than its predecessor, there were also major changes, including 4K multimedia. Still, this console was not quite to Sony's liking, because in 2016 no fewer than two improved versions were released, including the slim version.
Although Sony has been consistent over the years with releasing a new game console with an interval of 6 years, it seems that the Playstation 5 will be on the market earlier. The most recent analysis done by Damian Thong predicts that Sony's latest model will be available at the end of 2018. This is at odds with previously released reports that Sony would only come on the market with a new game console in 2020.
UPDATE:As it stands, the Sony PS5 won't be released until 2019 or even 2020. For the time being, the PS 4 is and remains a formidable competitor that is very popular.
Although Sony itself has neither confirmed nor denied, the rumors are fueling. Not least because the financial analyst has previously made predictions about expected release dates and he was always right. In addition, Sony itself has indicated that their game consoles have a lifespan of 7 – 10 years. The PS 4 has been on the market since 2013, which means that time is running out for Sony. In addition, the company may also want to stay ahead of its competitors.
Sony is tight-lipped about a possible new console, but there are still a number of specifications that Sony can expect to build into the PS 5. Many people fell for the fact that the PS 4 didn't have the ability to play 4K Blu-ray discs. This is in contrast to competitors such as the Xbox One and the Xbox One X.
In addition, Sony will probably also do something about the storage capacity, which was 'only' 500GB and 1TB with the PS 4. With more and more sophisticated games it is impossible to stick to this storage capacity. There is a good chance that the capacity will even be 2TB.
The general performance will also have to be improved in order for the graphical aspects to come into its own. The AMD Radeon graphics card now found in the PS 4 Pro will need to be upgraded to meet the demands of gamers.
As you can see, it is still a lot of guesswork about the actual features that the Playstation 5 will have. However, with all the rumors, it is almost certain that we will already have the latest model Playstation in 2018. If there are any updates, I will adjust this article so that you are aware of everything about the Playstation 5 release in 2018.
